I have a fault code on my IID TOOL suggesting that 'bedding in' mode has been ran (incorrectly) if I can get a timestamp off it I may be able to prove they were at fault.

I ran bedding in mode last night and completed it, now it's holding perfectly on hills.

In New Zealand it is also done by independent authorized "state run" stations, called MOT stations. So no funny business (in one of the least corrupt countries in the world, that should not be surprising). Since that is likely going to be our next place of residence, I'm smiling Smile.

Sorry Ebajema but it isnt.
VTNZ are a private company who has testing stations throughout the country, they did have the monopoly on truck testing but recent changes have altered that. VTNZ have a few issues too , mechanics who do part time testing for them then put customers with failed vehicles to their other jobs garage. Local garages can do Warrant of Fitness tests throughout the country. Recent changes have also introduced 12 month WoFs for vehicles first registered after 2000. This is a change from 6 months.
Local garages have to road test to do all the checks but VTNZ does not, it relies on testing machines. Test machines cannot detect whjat a competent mechanic can do with a road test therefore I always stay with a competent mechanic.
In saying that if all the test machines are set up the same throughout the country then all tests will be uniform with corresponding results.

Although in my opinion almost all garages are crooks (on offence intended to anyone who runs one on here!)

Retested today with a different garage - sailed through.

Told the guy in the garage of the back story and he explained the way they do it the HB is tested on the road test and a non EPB car the test would involve applying handbrake at about 20mph and that EPB cars are different and require you to go into "a mode that lets you apply HB while moving"

I suspect original garage has done the same but somehow reset the force applied to minimum.

Funnily enough he also commented on a "garage near him" that failed a car on corroded brake pipes when there was nothing wrong with them - I get the strong feeling its the same one I went to.

Great to hear the car went through fine !!

Didn't know about VTNZ Adrian, has that changed in the past 8 years or was it always like that ?? I did only one WOF in NP and it was done well (I stayed there to make sure and see how it was done). Had a little talk to the guy and he seemed very knowledgeable. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

The only way I have found to get a honest and proper MOT is to be friendly with the local garage and tester.

Mine is happy for me to be stood there while he does it and knows I make his life easier by pointing out bits that I'm worried about as with running some older cars that is always an issue!

The best is that I get advisories on bits that could class as normal service warning but he knows what I'm like and sees it as a chance to offer fresh eyes on bits I could easily overlook Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
