Sorry Ebajema but it isnt. VTNZ are a private company who has testing stations throughout the country, they did have the monopoly on truck testing but recent changes have altered that. VTNZ have a few issues too , mechanics who do part time testing for them then put customers with failed vehicles to their other jobs garage. Local garages can do Warrant of Fitness tests throughout the country. Recent changes have also introduced 12 month WoFs for vehicles first registered after 2000. This is a change from 6 months. Local garages have to road test to do all the checks but VTNZ does not, it relies on testing machines. Test machines cannot detect whjat a competent mechanic can do with a road test therefore I always stay with a competent mechanic. In saying that if all the test machines are set up the same throughout the country then all tests will be uniform with corresponding results. Adrian VW Amarok 2014 Highline auto |

The only way I have found to get a honest and proper MOT is to be friendly with the local garage and tester.
