Scotland 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Stornoway Grey
Brake problem

Hi just got new pads and discs fitted all-round and rear callipers on 2008 range rover but the brake pedal feels very spongy I don't know if they have Been bled properly is there a certain procedure on how to do this any help welcome thanks. Thumbs Up

I wouldn't trust Kwik-Fit to put air in my tyres let alone change my brakes

It is completely normal for the pedal to be a bit spongy until the new brake pads have had a few hundred miles or so to bed in fully

I've never had a spongy pedal after changing pads and discs. Yes the braking might not be as powerful when first fitted as they need to bed-in but never a spongy pedal Shocked

Reo, I wouldn't expect them to be too spongy, maybe a tad, give them a good 'emergency stop too see how they are. Doesn't sound normal IMHO, keep an eye on it, but I do have to agree that Kwik Fit is not he best, if you want to know the best indys around Glasgow, let me know or do a search, There are lots of us in the area and have experienced most of it Thumbs Up

The other thing to try is to find a hill (no traffic) and put HDC on then set off down the hill and "let go". This will activate HDC/ABS and jiggle the solenoids in the ABS module. (not my tip!)

Would also still suggest it is worth telling Kwik Fit you think there is a problem, rather than leaving it for a while to "bed" in. The pedal should be solid not spongy. .

Depends which brand of pads were used.

If they were a cheaper option, they will take longer to bed in, than say, a genuine set of pads. Being Kwik Fit, I think it's safe to assume the former

It will also take longer to bed in a set of new pads on old discs. A few heavy stops should do 90% of the bedding in

Pads will take a while to bed in, but the pedal should not feel spongy - your brakes probably need bleeding, and I would go back to Kwik Fit and get them to do it for you (and thereafter avoid them like the plague - any decent mechanic will not work for kwik Fit / Halfords etc when the money is better at a main stealers.) Mikey no issues with the pads and discs as they are genuine brembo bought from advanced factors. Anyway took the beast back to kwik fit today he re-bled the brakes but it's still the same he is now saying he does not have the right diagnostic equipment for my model year he only has it for the 2011 model. I then did what Ray said and tried that it's a little better thanks Ray but still not right is it really that hard to bleed these brakes. Big Cry
