Split turbo hose - TdV8 - can I drive ?

Just found out that I have a split turbo hose after receiving the fault message "limited performance" and the fatty ant into limp home mode. I am 600 km from home and not sure if I can find a replacement hose up in northern Norway.

I have tried to fix it with some rounds of duct tape, but will it be safe to continue the last leg home?

Kids and wife anxious whether we will get home tomorrow or not Smile

Advice appreciated Smile !

With Regards

Yes - I did over 1000km with a split one - you will belch out black smoke when you accelerate.

I found that if I floored it, then I got the bong and into safe mode, but otherwise was fine

Thanks Alistar Smile

Yes, when I exceed 2000 rpm it goes into safe mode. Not easy to avoid when towing 1500 kg trailer, but a sharp eye on the rpms will then help me home Surprised

I tried to convince the wife to use the Defender on this trip, but I was vetoed Rolling with laughter

Thanks again Thumbs Up Range Rover TdV8 Autobiography MY2010

2000 rpm Shocked

Mine was higher than that - I was ok with mild acceleration - but I guess as long as you know the limit you will be ok Thumbs Up

As long as its sealed up it should be fairly ok. Plenty of duct tape will help! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Did you get home OK ?

When mine went, I was convinced it was some sort of catastrophic failure - all the smoke and dash messages - it was a huge relief to find out that it was a fairly cheap hose Thumbs Up

Me too Alistair, convinced myself it was the gearbox/torque converter as I was getting a judder at 1800rpm

I had the fluid changed as a precaution (which is fine - it had done 90k miles and I'm planning on keeping the car) before finding out the hoses were split. New hoses and all was sorted!! 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

I sealed the hose up with duct tape and it worked Very Happy But I also godt a local tip to visit a hydaulic workshop nearby. Tough they normally services huge craines and excavators they put a mecanic on it.

He cut off the spilt area and replaced it with a piece of metal pipe, some clamps and a piece of low pressure hose within 30 minutes.

I got home without any more troubles, and even checked it for any fault codes - there where none Smile

Yesterday I replaced both top hoses to be on the safe side Wink

Tanks for all the good advice ! Thumbs Up Range Rover TdV8 Autobiography MY2010
