2005 touchscreen unit not working

Hi,
Thinking of buying a 2005 4.4V8 but the dealer has just told me that the screen doesn't work. Camera, radio, CD etc do not work.

What could this be? Any common problems?

If it has the MOST system already (my 05/05 built MY 2006 SC has the MOST) then it could be that. If one unit in the daisy chain is done (on mine the BT module) the entire system is out.

So first port of call (after checking fuses obviously) is the BT module and other electronics in the back left hand side.

You can take the MOST connector out, push the little blue tab out. Let the fibres "look each other straight into the eye" and see if that makes a difference. On mine they did that. Try it for all units that are connected to the MOST system and see if that resolves it.

Looking for water ingress issues back there is a good start as well, it could already indicate problems if you see signs of leakage etc.

Please have a look at this :

Could be water damage to the bluetooth unit , not uncommon, after that it gets more complicated and therefore expensive " not working " is a touch vague . But first look for evidence of water in the spare wheel well and on top of the phone unit ( it's the nokia branded box on top of the large stack of units in the near side rear compartment , this will be a start .

Ok thanks, It's a 55' plate so touch screen sat nav etc.

Only trouble is, it has 174,000 miles but with FLRSH. So still not sure if its worth it.

Right, one of the fuses had blown so I replaced that and straight away the screen lit up with the LR logo screen but after 10 seconds or so, it just went blank.
The power light didn't come on and its still not working!
What else could it be?

any specific wires/modules to check and how?

Thanks

Have just tried the cables facing each other on the nokia module but still isn't working.
Should I try all modules this way?

I unplugged the tmc module and plugged it back in and the LR logo came on for a few seconds again.
The DVD/sat nav unit doesn't seem to have any power as I can't eject the DVD and it doesn't make any noise.

Also, which one is the Bluetooth module?

Rich, when you unplug one of the fibre optic plugs, do you have a red light on one side? If no red light, no power Thumbs Up
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251562241193?ssP...1439.l2649 If you have a red light then, Buy yourself one of these and plug it into everyone of the fibre optic leads in turn and usually, when you get the right one, the screen will burst into life... If no red light, you will need to have it plugged in after checking obvious things like fuses & dirty connector plugs Thumbs Up

Red light? On the power button?
There is power to the actual unit as last night the buttons were all lit up and as I said earlier, the LR logo came on.

Read it again Rich, do you have a red light inside the fibre optic lead? OK, open boot, unplug a fibre optic lead from one of the plugs (anyone it does not matter) do you see a red laser light? If so, you need to jump the plugs one at a time..... Simples Thumbs Up

BTW The power light on the screen is orange not red sir Whistle

Right, when I unplug and plug back in the TMC module, the logo comes up on the screen and I've just noticed that for that short time, there is a red light coming through the optic cable. As soon as the screen goes off, so does the red light. (It was flashing if that makes a difference)

Also just wanted to mention, on my diagnostics from LR there are a couple of mentions about the battery;
Supply voltage less than 9.6 volts
Power on reset
system voltage low
battery voltage

Could this be anything?

Low battery voltage is always a problem with FFRRs and many other modern cars. So make sure you have a good battery and alternator and when playing with the engine off put a charger on to make sure the voltage stays well up. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
