If there is no red light coming from the optic cable that connects the unit to all the amps/modules etc in the boot, could the screen be faulty?

Just as an aside on this, do NOT look directly into the fibre when looking for the red light - shine the fibre end at a piece of white card. |

Hi Rich if you have the key out of the ignition for more than a few minutes the light goes off. Try it with the ignition at the position before starting the engine. If the the red light is showing then it is passing the last component. So you need to start at the male /female connection at the start of the fibre loop, you need to remove the trim locate it at the bottom of the wheel well. It is a larger connector you can't miss it. Follow it forward to it's next feed it splits in two cables this is the in and out feed hence fibre loop ( fibre optics need to be fed from one part to the next, if there is one break then it is feckd) then go from there to the next and so on each time you need to be seeing a red light from the in arrow marked on the black tyco connector. When you get to the component that doesn't give a red light in (visible on both connectors) then that may be the faulty component. I did this for my audio issue but my second hand amp failed again after a few months. I work in IT so I know a bit about fibre optics ( frickin pain in the jacksy). Traded in my Audi TT 225 for my Range Rover TD6 Autobiography in Java Black. Range Rover now sold. |

If the DVD unit is faulty (I can't eject the disc) would the screen/radio etc still work?

Have you looked at fuse 48 in the passenger compartment (glovebox) fuse box. It may be the fuse for the satnav DVD player.

Hi Rich if the DVD player is faulty it may be the break in the fibre link. Also if there is a bad disk in the drive it can cause a read error just like a PC locking the system. Try to eject the DVD in it by doing the power reset in the battery disconnect for ten minutes touching the red and black cables together for this amount of time. NOT THE BATTERY TERMINALS. There is a wiki telling you how to do this please search for it. Then reconnect and try ejecting the DVD in the DVD player once it is out the system will not try and read it it should go into passive mode and just power itself, unless there is a power fault and it may still screw the system up still. You must remember to reset the suspension after the power off of the battery. Turn steering to the left fully count to 3 turn steering to right count to 3 and for good measure back to left count to 3. Do this after ejecting the DVD. I have still to get to the bottom of an issue I have with my system, which is very strange I fixed it for a few months with a second hand amp but the issue came back. The TMC unit when it has the small power cable connected it shorts when touched against any of the other units. I bought a brand new one and it did the same. I have given up any hope of getting any answers about Range Rover electrics from the internet. I have been to three independent Land Rover specialists in Aberdeen and they are stumped. When I have time and have the heart for it I will try and work my vehicle out. Good luck buddy. |

Hi Rich have you started at the start of the fibre optic feed? Under the trim you need to take of over the wheel well there is the main feed of the fibre optic, it is a male to female connector that is where you need to start there should be a red light from the out feed which is indicated by the arrow pointing to the rear of the vehicle (I think). There should be a light if there isn't it is nearer the front of the vehicle that the fault is. If there is a light follow it forward by tracing the two fibre cables, one is the feed back the other is the feed forward (in and out) . I am on holiday at the moment so not able to see my car but if still not fixed in a weeks time you can pm me and I can be at my car and run through a few things if it would help.
