On the 4.2 I have had two flats in Nigeria and on the first I didn't realize the tailgate was to be used as part of the removal procedure. Once you know that trick it becomes easy peasy (I used it a few times after that and it makes life soooooo much easier).

Plug the bracket into the "lock" opening of the lower tailgate and lower the lower tailgate. The straps tighten and the tyre pops up
