Nexen Blog

So... My two new Nexens arrived in better post, 48 hours after ordering them. Just under £180 to your door which isn't to be sniffed at.
Now.... There's lots of opinions here so what I thought I'd do is periodically photograph them and then put up a picture here with the associated mileage, then you can make your own minds up...

So, we're not quite at day 1 yet but I'll get them fitted hopefully tomorrow...

I binned mine off and went back to real tyres
when I first put them on I felt very confident but less so when you see the tyre wall bulge when pushing against a kerb or similar. as it happens my tracking was out so fecked the fronts and I just thought sod it I'll put 4 Scorpions back on. much better by far imho

I found nexens a good budget tyre. The road holding was good, they stopped the car aquaplaning, they were quiet on the road, generally good all round.
They felt so soft when cornering I could feel them roll a bit. They always looked flattish as there is no strength in the sidewalls.
I've posted this picture a few times but it shows what happens with the tyre hitting the side of a pot hole.....

Shocked

what you doing pushing up kurbs Confused

My Nexen's are fine, wet or dry they don't looses grip, imo they are a good tyre for the price, I'll be getting some again when these are warn down, imo don't see the point in spending 250+ on a corner for a road tyre.

Yes Ive had expense and cheap tyres on all my Landrovers over the years, Amari55 been the Censored of them all on a D1, Michelin been the best Thumbs Up

Nexen's are not a budget tyre imo, might be at the lower end of mid range though but still good.

Nexens are ok, and at under - £100 a tyre very good value - they do the job ok and nothing more - but you cannot compare them to a better quality tyre. You notice the difference when the car is driven harder - especially on bends - the soft tyre walls are the limiting factor. I took mine off after 5k miles and replaced them with General AT's - 13k miles and still on 10mm tread depth with a digital scale 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Agree with Welshdragon,

Under "normal" driving on local roads and motorways, these tyres will serve well during summer and winter. Nexen Rodian shod all round and have so far travelled 12k miles with little to no wear and not one under performing or 'safety' blip.

There was also one incident last summer when to avoid an out of control skidding vehicle, the front near side Nexen had to last resort emergency mount a high kerb at a speed you would not routinely advocate mounting any kerb at and - soft tyre walls or not (I routinely run my tyres at full vehicle load capacity) - the alloy wheel and tyre, surprisingly I have to say, survived in tact.

For your average miles, average road use vehicle, brand preferences aside, if you get to know these tyres, I can see why people might look no further because they do represent good quality and value for money that will make it difficult for many to justify looking elsewhere!

Thumbs Up

@ Googsy 275 45 20 same dia as std 255 50 20 . The only negative is a slight hum from the tyres but the off road ability and snow capability is far better than the std road tyres / scorpians 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

The tyre wall depth is the same with the General AT as oem - the 45 profile is a percentage of the width - if you went to the RRS profile of 275 40 20 them yes there is a difference.

I cannot tell any difference in the ride comfort - it might be slightly firmer due to the significantly stronger side walls and squarer profile - but these are of benefit = less puncture risk and protects the rims from kerbing 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17
