Sounds like the starter relais is the part failing. My first thought would be the ignition switch itself. Like it is not engaging the relais properly and causing it to fail. The live feed cable I would think is somewhat less likely the culprit but that could be it. Or the cable/wire between the ignition switch and the relais is causing issues. This is a new one to me never heard of this type of failure.

Thanks. That is what the garage is saying. At great cost to replace the cable and they are not sure it will fix it. . I love the car as well. |

Better look for a different dealer or indy that understands fault finding a bit better. Maybe the forum members can help finding someone near you. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Well someone who replaces the same part 5 times is not someone who is good at trying to find the real problem. Try to find a car electrics specialist who understands how to trace a fault by measurements and deduction. Sorry that I can't help any more from here. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

I have exactly the same symptoms on our 12MY, we are on the third starter now, they say it must be a faulty batch but I am not so sure myself, just glad it's under guarantee. 12MY Black FF VSE

Not sure I understand the logic behind the main cable from battery to starter?

Could be the bendix drive on the starter is getting dirt or crud from the engine starter ring. I had the same problem on my boat I replaced starter motor and all was fine then it would start to fail until it wouldn't engage no matter how many times I operated the starter switch. Took the motor off cleaned the bendix up and all was ok until got all dirt in it again. I found the starter ring on the engine was rusted up and throwing rust and crud into the starter motor causing the bendix drive of the starter motor to seize up.

+1 for a second opinion... Take the car to a reputable auto electrician who can do some old fashioned fault finding
