I want a tow bar fitted

Now I really haven't got a clue with things like this but basically need some advice on where is the best place in the region of Heathrow to get one fitted and what sort to go for bearing in mind I will only be pulling a small trailer for a mobility buggy.

Oh preferably one that can swing out of the way if one exists

Any advice would be welcome.

It's really not that difficult to fit one yourself if you go for the genuine items (got mine from PF Jones), I did. The only difficulty I had was that the bolts that held on the exhaust were seized. Managed to shear one and get the other off by removing the rubber bung, once they were out of the way I cut / drilled them out and replaced with bolts.

Took about 1/2 a day to do it in total (I split it over an evening and morning because of various circumstances).

I'm not sure of a swing-away one for an L322 but all the genuine ones are detachable, if you go for the swan-neck (I didn't) then that fits into the hole under the floor on the right-hand side of the boot so out of the way.

The main question is do you already have the armature (big metal bar going across underneath the back of the vehicle)? If yes then you'd only need the tow hitch bit.

^what he said, pf jones is your friend if you want to do it yourself, or any tow bar centre should be able to handle it.

Specify if you want:

Detachable or farmers (farmers can be removed but detach is neater) you want a westfalia oem setup not brink/thule/witter, which though ok in isolation just dont look right on a ff, have had brink and witter bars on other cars and they are good pieces of kit so im not knocking them, just an aesthetic thing.

Only specify GENUINE electrics, for ease and peace of mind, last thing you want is the cutting wiring. You could buy these yourself from LR and get the fitter to install them. Some say it needs coding, but the jury is out, they seem to work ok without, however i suspect that enabling in ccf will switch on stability systems and such.....

But really it a piece of p155 to fit in comparison to others. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Got genuine electrics on mine and only thing I did when installing was to disconnect the battery in the proper manner.

Yes they do work, but there is an option to enable tow bar in the config files, so the question is what does that actually do?

Engine and gearbox mapping? Traction and stability control? Who knows...... So long as the lights work! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Or in my case not. First time went to tow a trailer (another Land Rover) got both trail lights and one indicator on?! Turns out I'd put the white socket in the black holder and vice versa so inadvertently plugged it into the caravan socket. Thankfully a quick fix. Maybe next time I pop into the garage I'll ask if they know what enabling the option does.

I think it is only the later (post 2010) vehicles which need coding. Mines a 2006, and when I recently fitted a towbar and 13 pin kit for towing our tin tent, without having to have anything coded the car knows when the tin tent is on the back, and the engine and gearbox mapping is altered (clever ba rds, these chinese!!)

Hi, I am missing the swan neck on mine at the moment. can you say exactly what 'fits into the hole under the floor on the right-hand side of the boot so out of the way.' means please? Is that in with the spare wheel?
