Looking for some advise...... Bought my rr a few months ago, first l322 td6 130000 miles have had the 4.6v8 p38 hse previously. Just got home and noticed a small spot of oil where I usually park so had a look under and seen oil all around the front near side drive shaft at the diff. Just wondering if this is diff oil or engine oil? There is nothing dripping down on that area from anything else. If it was a simple job then I will do it myself. Since I bought it it has sprung a diesel leak, center screen had stopped working and the water pump blew up!!!

Don't bring it my house with oil leaking all over my oil free drive.

Get into off road height and get underneath the beast. with you being so short you may be able to walk under the car in off road height , Have a look to see if coming from the engine.

Also put some of the oil on your sausage fingers and smell it there is a distinct difference between engine and hydraulic oil.

Check the oil filter reservoir as they often spring a leak (if the seals are not changed during servicing) and it drips down that side of the diff

Will lift it up after work tomorrow, will check that reservoir tomorrow thanks for the tip!! Was thinking about changing the oil on the weekend anyway and I now know the perfect place to do it Jayboy!!

Forgot to mention that I changed out the old style crankcase breather last week for the updated style, wether this has anything to do with it, I doubt it as it's on the opposite side to the leak.

i have a 2002 TD6 and i have a minor leak as you describe which i think is the seal between the sump and diff, £8 for the seal bitch to change so as i dont get any drips just a bit of oil stain around the diff ive not tackled it just wash it off every few months................it leaks less when ive done an engine oil change

And don't go under your car in off road height without putting an axle stand or two in place, just in case!

You could also try cleaning off around the front diff plug, and checking for tightness - 14mm drain plug key.

But sounds more like the sump/diff seal..... .

Thanks all, will clean it up tomorrow and have a proper look with the axle stands !!! Will keep you posted!

Not an easy fix...... Defiantly the oil sum seal!! Anyone done this before?? Or any advice? Thanks
