Do I have the biggest trailer?

It's a 2003 TD6. Done 130,000 KM's and had a reconditioned gearbox. I bought it because I need to be able to tow a 3.5 tonne trailer, don't do too many miles, and like a classy/compfy car. So far (4 months) I'm well chuffed.

I live in Switzerland and had a trip to the uk to pick up some stuff. There's the full 3.5 tonnes in this. Coming back through France big vibration in top gear. Thought the gearbox was gone again, but turned out to be the injectors. Fixed under guarantee. I seem to have a very good garage.

I manged to reverse it into this. Felt quite heroic being able to do it in one go.

Great site, will try and visit more often.

You might have the heaviest trailer load, but us British do have some nice long caravans too!

Not wanting to belittle your skills in any way, but reversing a long trailer is surprisingly easy! In fact, the longer the trailer, the easier it gets.

Try reversing with a small (less than 2m) unit and you will see whet I mean! Wink

I used to have a long 3.5T trailer which was very similar to yours. I went to pick-up a load of stone chippings and decided to try the weighbridge at the quarry prior to departure just for fun. Turned-out I had over 7.5t gross with the Disco1 V8 and the loaded trailer (almost 5t of stones on board). It would be fair to say the the Disco handled it better than the trailer did because, when I looked in the mirrors, the wheels on the trailer had a heck of a lot of negative camber on them!!! JMC, totally agree, I have a small Ivor Williams P100 2 wheel drop back trailer.................................... the minute you try to back it up it just jack knife's, it's much less embarrassing just to unhitch it and roll it back - it'[s going to be fun in September when I take it out to Tiree where all the roads except about 100m at the airport is single track! My brother has a huge 6 wheel vehicle trailer and it backs up like there was nothing behind the car! 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

I can agree too , I have a 6mx2m Bateson 3.5 t With an "H" bar winch and ramps and to be honest apart from not seeing the end of the trailer in some really tight 90 degree reverse maneuvers (and I some times use the venture cam for these) it's a total pice of Censored to reverse. My wife has a Mini Clubman (stupid car) and a single axle box trailer for her cafe and teaching her to reverse a tailer on her mirrors was Censored hard to start with and nearly ended in divorce . Yep, I have a small trailer (that I'm selling), and it jackknifes readily. The big one is much easier.

The Range Rover is much easier to reverse with than a normal car - guess it's the visibility.

.
My D3 with a big trailer on a bigger trailer after the clutch failed on the M4 toll near the Severn bridge on the way back from Southampton after collecting the boat. The AA were so helpful, the bus transporter was a nice touch, they shipped the whole lot to Pembroke.
