I used my Farecla clay wash mitt for the first time today.

This was on my black E55. The paintwork is in desperate need of correction but looks perfectly fine from a few feet away. It's heavily contaminated, in my view, so this was a good test.

I washed and rinsed thoroughly and used the mitt on a wet car using my hosepipe and lots of water as a lubricant.

My view is that it's in no way a replacement for a proper clay bar.

It's very good and a quick way or giving looked-after paint a deeper clean at wash time, but a proper clay would remove everything. Despite very thorough and determined application, certain aspects of the E55's paint would benefit further from being clayed before correction.

Would a more aggressive lubricant help? Possibly. But I didn't once feel the clay mitt 'grabbed' the paintwork as well as a clay bar.

I'll use it tomorrow on my SC. That's got much better paintwork.

Worth the money? Yes, but with the above caveats. Si. <This is my name.

I don't think water alone is a good enough lubricant. You need a soapy solution otherwise the clay will drag and leave marks as I'm sure you know from clay barring. This mitt is the same. Took me a few goes to get the right result. Discovery 4 HSE

I think you're right. The clay never once dragged, but I think it could use something that helps dissolve the contamination.

I think the main benefit is that it saves so much time because it is doing such a large surface area in one go, as compared to using the clay bar on your fingertips. Discovery 4 HSE

I have both clay bars and now clay mitts.
If you are a detailing freak you'd use a clay bar at least twice a year on your paintwork as I used to do, however if you have neither the time or inclination to clay bar your car then the clay mitt is a good all round solution which I still highly recommend.

Every time you use a clay mitt correctly as part of your car cleaning routine you'll remove more and more ingrained crud. A clay mitt is a winner for those of us who don't have the time or inclination to snow foam, rinse, de-tar, rinse, iron -x, rinse, clay bar, and then wash.

The fact that so many on the forum who are not detailing freaks have commented upon the effectiveness of the clay mitt proves it's worth for normal everyday car cleaning use.

I bought three only because of the 3 for 2 offer. 1 for the wife's cars, 1 for my RR, and 1 kept in reserve because they will eventually wear out and become ineffective.

All I have to do now is wax the whole car! Travelling around in circles again.
