Gents,

Can I ask for some realistic fuel comsumption figures for the 4.2 SC models in everyday driving - ideally, from full-to-full, rather than what the computer says? I appreciate that the computer can be a tad optimistic (if it's anything like that in the D3) ...  Regards,

Long term average on ours (just got it) was 15.6mpg and the last two tanks have averaged 17.1mpg with mainly town driving. Filled up after 370 miles of driving with 11 miles left in the tank.

Averaged 16.3 over 11000 miles in 7 months mixture of Heathrow to W12 commuting usually 2 days a week rest motorway commute 120 miles each way. Should be said that I have averaged just over 12 mpg several times but also managed 20 odd.
\I drive quite hard though so 18 should be achievable I am surprised at how good the mpg is only managed 12mpg out of my p38 without the performance

Only had mine a few months, around 335 around countryside roads 14.5mpg, London 7 mpg is more likely, motorway driving at just over 70mph on cruise 17 mpg or 390 miles, anything above 70mph really affects the economy and the faster you go the very much more dramatic the thirst, unlike any other car I've owned.

Mine is now LPG'd and I get 244 miles on motorway on 75 litres of gas and 215 around town, so roughly the same mpg but at huge discount to petrol and more than half the price of diesel. Current:

I can't really give you a good idea as I do lots of short journeys and it very rarely has a run which probably does it no good at all and never worked it out accurately but the puta says around 13.5 , sorry but the best I can do

I get about 15 - 17 mpg on an average tank .
Short journeys mainly, not too many traffic jams.

Sit in a jam or 80 mph+ on a motorway run , and it is low teens.

70mph in cruise and it's 18/19

8000 miles in 18 months. Maths don't add up for a diesel Alcohol and eBay is never a good mix

I get 12.8-13.1 on the school run - lots of stop-start traffic, speed bumps and idiot females who don't know how wide their cars are.

On a long run involving lots of motorway, I get about 25-27 (the record is 31!). On a long run with less motorway, usually about 19-22.

I've found that you should just ignore the consumption figures for these cars and just enjoy the car.

Also worth noting that when cold or not up to full running temp and I mean engine oil temp not coolant the mpg varies loads but as had been said enjoy the vehicle and don't worry about mpg I certainly don't and if I did would drive my sons GolfTDi thing which gets stupid amounts of miles per gallon but you also get free back ache

How much better or worse is the 5.0SC?
Would the 5.0 be better at steady motorway speeds than a 4.2 and same for town driving?

Due to heavy traffic I drove a 5.0 from Nottingham to Rickmansworth averaging 65-70 mph. I reset trip 2 before journey and got 27mpg on the screen....

(Impossible in a 4.2 where 22/23 is absolute best)

Cheers guys - the general consensus seems to be about the same as that I got from my old P38 4.6 ... but with a lot more performance thrown in to the bargain!

My current mileage rate is about 9K per year (the Disco's done just shy of 30k since the end of May 2010, but I've been using it more in the last few months), so I don't reckon it's worth the extra outlay for the TdV8 version ... Regards,

another point is that although the mpg is less than a tdv8 you will get a much more quieter engine .. ... - .- -.

My TDV8 will average 32 to 33mpg cruising at 65 to 70 so long as it's not into a strong head wind.

But I.m impressed that the 5.0 can achieve over 25mpg at this speed, especially considering the potential under your right foot.

Take a look on www.fuelly.com to see what people get in the real world.

My SC hardly ever does a long run. It's mainly town work, lots of idling and (whilst I really try to avoid it) the school run of just under a mile. So therefore 15 MPG is to be expected.

Remember that fuel consumption isn't the only thing to take into the equation........
