Not many cars you can carry a 500Ib lathe in.

Went to pick up a lathe from a friend today - 250 round trip, with a 500Ib lathe, lathe table and a sizeable amount of tooling.

Took the picture before removing the table, was going to take one removing the lathe but all that was forgotten about in the struggle that three of us had getting it out of the back of the RR.

Yep, strong vehicles indeed. In my old FFRR I brought a pallet back from the builder's yard, put in with a fork lift and complete with 72 18" square slabs.

I think even the tailgate straps (assuming they aren't rusted) are good for 250kg, which would be about 550 lb.

Glad to see it working for its living. Thumbs Up

What type of lathe did you buy? I spend my spare time restoring old metalworking and woodworking lathes.
My RR spends it's weekends towing lathe all over the country.

However, you cannot fit a metalworking lathe in the back!!!

Yes, it was a metal working lathe... everything you see in the picture plus some more working metal was loaded into the back, plus the wheeled trolley it was strapped to . Very Happy

I eat my words. She looks like a grand machine!
Happy Turning...

I restore many machines such as Colchester Students and Harrison M250 etc from the UK.

Yep, put that load in your average coil spring/leaf spring car and you would be dragging your rear end down the road like a dog with an itchy ar Censored e, that's for sure. Thumbs Up

one of my hobbies involves me jumping into the sea carrying about 130kg of bits and bobs to keep me occupied.
so me and my buddy were transferring mine and his gear from the ship to the car and the ar$e end kept going down. we gathered a bit of a crowd all offering encouragement as mates do
"geez! want me to carry some of that in my Audi / Beemer / pos van?"
me and my buddy are smiling in anticipation as we know that after we've loaded in the 250kg of plongée gear the car will do it's trick.
we hop in the front and I start the engine. we're now pishing ourselves as the car levels off and we swan off leaving them to pick their jaws up.
shame you can only pull that stunt the once Smile

i cut a tree down, -big-one! -'topped' it off hooked up, axed the roots, and bent it over, and towed out the trunk/stump. shredded the small branches, and filled RR with sawn branches, (2ft) it took it no problem. later i returned and chained the trunk and filled it to the roof with foot high logs. she was on the bumper almost, till the pump took her up. then returned for the stump.

just another days work!

-to clean it out!

should have sent a picture in for the 'best rear seat picture ' last month.

I love that it's a real tool. Clean it looks good at a nice hotel, normally with dogs/pheasants/wellies and other bits in the back, or full of logs, or plasterboard, or garage rubbish.

It ticks all the boxes....

anyhow, enough of that... the lathe....DROOOLLL!!!! WANT!!! Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
