Saudi Arabia 2004 Range Rover HSE 4.4 V8 Bournville
2014 - New Head Unit for Range Rover 2002 to 2004

Note : all the below issues has been solved , the version 2 of the same head unit is working perfectly without any issues (28-8-2014).

hello guys

first of all forgive me about my English if its not 100% accurate , but i am sure its better than your Arabic Language Surprised

see this video first i received from the manufacturer for the BMW E39 android head unit.

http://www.mediafire.com/watch/llgen941ea9zb67/IMG_0868.MOV

in 2013 i found a company called Eonon selling a BMW E39 head unit (5124F) which is almost identical to BMW E39 and Range Rover head unit.

after ordering that head unit i cancelled my order because it was and still operated by Windows CE , which is a very poor system in my opinion.

i had emailed them many time asking them think about android and their replies were always confirming that that option was not included in their plans and the mentioned head unit is not made by them.

i had even asked them to forward me the manufacture who is making that head unit but they rejected.

anyway , after almost a year and after a long searching on the internet i have found on Alibaba the company which is making that head units and selling it to Eonon.

Shenzhen Sion Electronics Co., Ltd

it was surprise to me when i found that they already started promoting for their E39 7 inches pure android (4.2) head units , so i decided to contact them.

after a long discussion and negotiations they agreed to modify the BMW E39 android head unit and make me a Range Rover head unit sample.

i asked them to change the back light led to green instead of red and also the change the BMW logo to Land Rover logo.

so i placed my order on the 8th of April 2014 , and they promised me that my sample would be ready after 20 days.

unfortunately i found after that 20 days that they did not do anything and we started negotiations again , and they promised me this time that my sample would be ready by the 26th of May and it would be shipped by the 28th of May by DHL.

i was following them every week to make sure everything is Okay.

on the 27th i did not get any update from them and after a hard chasing they started asking me for more days because some eliminates still missing as they said.

i kept pushing and i was ready to cancel the order , and on the 28th they sent me a TNT tracking number.

until the 1st of June 2014 no online information about my shipment and on the 2nd of June i have received the sample to discover that to gave me a reference number instead of the consignment number.

right now i am the only one worldwide who is having that sample.

that was along story and not yet finished.

when i opened the package i found out that there is no installation guide or a quick start guide to show you or to give you a quick look on the head unit and the included cables and connectors.

as a result till this moment i do know the names or the functions for some included cables and where they should be connected.

the sticker on the top of the head unit is containing incorrect information

Examples:
USB : on the Sticker its C ( in reality C is CanBus) , "on the head unit its A"
IPOD : on the Sticker its G ( in reality G is Empty) , "on the head unit its E"
Digital TV: on the sticker is E ( in reality E is IPOD).
USB Camera : on the Sticker its B , "on the head unit there is a cable connected and they told me do not use"
Aux out/Video 1&2 out: on the Sticker its D , "on the head unit D is Empty"
ST & IR: on the sticker its F , ( in reality F is video ,camera, output ) , what is ST & IR?

also i have noticed that there is some differences between the short 40 pin cable and the 5 meter 40 pin extension cable

its all most one week now and i a have sent them many emails and received only few replies.

many questions still unanswered.

my experience with them could be briefed in the next points:

1- you have to follow your order at least in weekly bases.
2- there is no official technical support so you need to make a lot of pictures and sometimes videos to explain to them what you do need to the sales people , but getting a completed and cleared answer is not always guaranteed , so try to find another source to get your required answers from.
3- you might received some different news regarding the same issue of you deal with more than one person there.
4- do not pay by PayPal or and direct payment , its better to use Escrow which is a similar service as PayPal provided by Alibaba ( my payment not yet delivered to the seller , because they are awaiting for my confirmation which i am not able to give before making sure the that the head unit is working)

i am not saying they are bad , but you need to be a Patient person which i am not unfortunately.

the reasons behind writing this subject are:

1- maybe some of you would interested to get that new head unit.
2- maybe some of you could have some useful information could help to complete the installation.
3- maybe some of you could tell me about those cables and connectors.

first this here is the new Land Rover Android head unit

and these here are my question which i have sent to them , if you have any information could help please use the letter in the picture ( A B C etc) in your answer as a reference.

these here is the BMW E39 version , but remember the operating system is the same (Android 4.2) and the only differences are the Back light led color and the Logo

I think IR could be infra red for the remote control ?

Aux AL could be aux audio left, same for Aux AR aux audio right ?

Good luck with your install. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

I have to say, that unit looks good, and useful, and in keeping with standard. but using modern stuff and functions. I'm sure a UK fitting shop could install all the wires, and functions etc. and steering wheel controls, and extensions etc.
how much was it please. -say the Eeuro or £sterling option. thanks. and on your vehicle, are you going to replace a vogue setup, or HSE setup?

Ah, says HSE in his car profile, so one would imagine it would be fairly simple to do - compared to the Vogue DSP setup..... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

@jonboy

You mean MID setup or non-touch screen setup Twisted Evil

I have an HSE with screen/tv etc. Laughing

@iphs

It can be done (See ironhorse's thread on this) but it is more complicated, and not straight plug and play. .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink

Just having a wonder, I am assuming the model designations are the same as the UK market, and they could well not be. I know over in the US the top spec model was badged HSE and had the screen in as standard. So over in the Arab States it could have the screen as standard.

Is the unit intended to replace the screen system or one without a screen, which we know as the MID system ? 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Looks very similar at the back to the one I fitted also the looms and plugs on the 5m was different (it is a universal fitting kit)
Some are powered antenna leads ,also some of the fly leads are for button illumination, brake detect (whatever that does) reversing detect for back up cam ect,
Do what I did just plug it in to your car and see what works
I had very vague instruction so I just had to guess most of time,
I'm away for 2weeks but when I get back I'll dig out the notes I made
Hope it helps

Dear johnboyairey

my car is 2004 HSE with DSP (not logic 7 system) and Navigation screen

the price for the sample was 550 USD and for big orders it could be 300 USD.

maybe the price now is different , but you could check with Miss. Brianna ( her email was included in my 1st post)

as i have mentioned before its the 1st unit they ever made for Range Rover.

Thank you

Replacing the outdated none touch screen with the mentioned head unit or any other aftermarket head unit is always possible as i think.

i am searching currently in those subjects about working-around DSP.

in the fact even if the price is removing the old system completely i believe its worth it.

Thank you

mjdronfield

you are right

Saudi specification for 2004 HSE Range Rover include all the option except the Logic 7 sound system and the heated seats.

if i understood you well i think this head unit is a replacement for the both.

In the UK, the HSE does not have the screen as standard, it had to be ordered as an option.

I believe the new unit you have will replace both the MID system without a screen, and the higher spec cars with the screen in.

Unfortunately, as you have found, the wiring is different in both systems, and includes DSP units and wiring in the boot if you have the screen already installed.

I understand the wiring can all be done in the dash if you don't have a screen, which is obviously more straightforward.

Other members on here have replaced their system with later aftermarket units and are very pleased with the result.

I have kept mine looking standard, but have upgraded the amplifier and added the BMW ulf bluetooth phone and upgraded the sat nav unit to a MK4 unit. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Thank you IronHorse

are you having the user name on rangeroverd.net?

if yes the there is private message waiting for there since yesterday.

i will be waiting for your notes and you help.

anyway i have connected the unit to the back of the car to see it working or not.

there was not sound because DSP was off since i disconnected the BM54 Radio ( its was normal).

the only problem i have noticed was the green back led light kept turning off for one second every 20 seconds

see this video Range Rover (2002 to 2004 android Head Unit
