The problem is prevalent to a lot of modern cars due to the way OBD is mandated to work. There is no way to really secure it as otherwise generic code readers would become useless.

They would drain the battery slowly at least on the l322 as the cover for the port shorts two pins iirc to stop it draining.

I like Will's idea and then put a big capacitor on the fake OBD2 port that immediately fries the gadget the thieves are using. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

I think as part of obd there are 5v pins maybe but nothing to stop you wiring a few upto the + feed with a 30amp fuse and then the others straight to earth FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

and POOOOOF there goes another gadget Although i do like the idea to send a few kilovolts into their gadget. And at the same time switch on a 150 dBA siren inside the car. Just to make sure that the whole neighbourhood is awake and the bastards are disoriented (and part deaf) a bit MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
