My FullFatRR - Stolen last night from my yard

unbelievable, Big Cry

my Range Rover (called Betty) was stolen last night. I got her in November, after more than 30 years of working hard to get a childs dream ... a Range Rover.

We are absolutely schocked. The police said, this was the first stolen cars for decades in our neigbourhood.

What happened:

I parked Betty on tuesday evening on our ground, doublelocked her and closed the gate. On the next morning My wife asked me where I parked my car... in that moment it was clear to me that she was stolen.

After talking intensively with the police and founding glass on the ground it seems to be that they crushed the left backdoor window, went in, used a prepared onboard diagnostic software and a generic new key to program the new key. Then start the engine and drive away. The special situation in our yard is, that you cant really tow away the car- except with a huge autocrane- the car has to move itself.

13k km, 7month old

My dealer made a warning to all RR customers to by a steering wheel lock - I wanted to, but there was always other important stuff to do. So finally i did not buy one. Our dealer got 3 cars stolen within the last 12 month until they started to secure their yard and used the locks every day.

By the way, our small Evoque was untouched standing in front of Betty.

So I would like to publish this as a waring for all L405 owners, think about using a steering wheel lock on top of the electronic stuff, which some people are able to compromite.

For us it is to late. but perhaps this can help one of you.

Best wishes

Sad news mate, be on it's way to Russia or Africa by now, at least nobody was hurt....

If they had the ability to steal it, a steering wheel lock wouldn't make any difference, just takes them a few minutes longer to steal it....

Get a good tracker with geofencing for your next one... Pete

Very sorry to hear that Stuempf. Don't beat yourself up about the steering lock mate. Locks and security devices are great at keeping honest people out but non of them will prevent a criminal from getting what he/she wants. They just slow them down "a little"

I hope your insurance sorts it out for you.

My Insurance broker told me when I was doing my renewals that Allianz will no longer insure the LS405 without a tracker device being fitted...not surprising really when you hear stories like this The forums premier drug dealer and human trafficking consultant

How did they get past the transponder system - I thought only the entry system part of the key could be added to the car via a diagnostic.

Gutted for you. Tracker unit would seem to be only course to possibly avoid this, the steering lock would only delay them a few minutes.
