Done a bit more over the last week, when I fitted the top hose I had a look at the bottom hose and it looked OK, on closer examination with the fan and shroud out it was starting to delaminate so I ordered one of them and also an air con condenser and dryer as it had a leak and it's starting to get hot..... well it was when I ordered it!!!
Had to wait for a new OEM one till Tuesday, not too bad at 51, 18 for two new drive belts, then some antifreeze and distilled water, went back together fine... Timing chain cover was slightly damaged and had a hot spot on it but it'll go again...
Probably start an argument on here but a thermostat that opens around 110deg to me seems just silly, every other part under the bonnet gets roasted, the plastic bit's dry out and fracture, the wiring hardens... and all for the sake of part throttle emissions!!! so I took the innards out of mine and it now warms up nearly as quickly, heater takes about 200yds further to start warming up and it's just so much cooler under the bonnet, you can actually touch bits!!!! I'll see how it goes in the winter, may fit a BMW 740diesel one which is the same as the FF but opens at 88deg So cooling system all sorted apart from this which turned up today... Electric fan set off a Jaguar, be able to take off the viscous one and control the temp better.... and wade deeper!!! with a viscous one you spray the engine bay with water when wading and they can snap blades off when they hit the water, this then results in overheating, with an electric set up it will be thermostatically controlled but have an override inside to turn the fans off whilst wading... Got pi55ed off with the ridiculous reversing lights, give no rear vision at all, might as well not be there... Came up with this...
took apart the old light and fitted inside
They don't look much better in a picture (new one on the left) but the difference is incredible... you can see to reverse!!!
The girls bought me a new steering wheel from PowerfulUK for my birthday, old one was a bit smooth... Old
New
Much nicer to hold and it warms up quicker as well
Started making some brackets to fit the petrol tank guard, hopefully be fitted tomorrow Got to play with big lumps of metal, the welder and the grinder.... It's good to be back in the modding off roader scene, welders not been played with for ages........
Off for it's first real off road this weekend in Wales... lets see how it goes.... Glad your enjoying it chaps,
All three in place, looking back from the front
Center and rear, you can see where the last owner of the guards had to grind the original bolts off
Just needed a downward facing lip trimming off the back to fit (I've kept the piece in case I decide to use it where it should go, it fits to the tow bar but mine hasn't got one and I've got no plans for one, another reason to use it here)
Looking from the back forward, the center plate is much higher than the front and back ones
Also had an irritating squeak from the front, turned out to be a rack end, the chrome has worn off the ball and the rough finish was squeaking on the nylon bush it sits in, new one in and all nice and quiet now
All set for a weekend playing.... Well where do I start.... what a D1ckhead!!,
This is where the BECM lives
Dehumidifier doing it's thing
Garage full of bits...
Thickness of the foam on the carpets
I shall update with more as it happens... I recon I can modify a Disco4 snorkel to fit the FF so that is pretty high on the list now!!!! Worth noting the LR D3/4 RAI are not watertight as designed for clean air not watertight-ness. (Can be made watertight though)
