LPG and check engine light

Hi does any one else have the problem when using LPG (BRC kit) that the yellow check engine light is always on, If i run it on petrol it turns off after a while. The P codes are normally P0174, P0175 plus another mostly injector faults. Is this an issue with the kit not set up right or jus a by product of using a LPG kit and the car not being fooled to well that the petrol injectors have been switched off?

cheers
Lee

Fault codes show system is running too lean on lpg. Could probably do with a remap on lpg using software and lead (I've got them)

Check light should not come on with a brc kit.

Sounds like either a badly set up, maintained or installed system to me... In a perfect world the EML should never come on! So if its on for the majority of time!, you have issues! And ones i would get addressed sooner rather than later sir... Bow down

On mine the original software of the Engine Management was a bit to "critical" on petrol (no LPG installed), same MY as yours by the way. Once I installed the latest version of the EM ECU software (took about 20 mins using the Faultmate), things were fine. I do have to mention that my fuel pump was also replaced and the entire fuel system and inlet tract were cleaned. That should also have helped.

anyway, after that was all done, NO MORE EML !!! MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

It should not show, and a good service (every year) of the lpg system is a must. A few years ago My 02 BMW engined FF had the same issue, if I accelerated hard. After a visit and reset of the lpg system it was over. They told me the car ran to lean. That was a Prins system. Now I run a BRC flashlube system on my 07 MY and have never seen that light.

Surely its best left to the professionals Lee... Are you a tuner by trade?

I say this because our LPG man runs two laptops simultaneously, one reading the petrol fuel trim and the other the LPG... He then tunes the LPG from there, but there is more to it then pressing a few buttons on a laptop Thumbs Up

Ask the forum for recommendations for trusted LPG garages would be my advise sir Bow down

Defo get it set up professionally, it could have been poorly set up to start with or it could be the diaphragm in the vaporiser getting weak and changing the mixture.

LPG installer should be able to pick up which it is.. Pete

Find a new LPG installer, this is how it works is... the petrol injectors are not doing anything, the petrol ECU doesn't know this. When running on petrol the ECU constantly takes readings from various sensors on the engine and adjusts the length of time the petrol injectors are open for to keep the car running at it's peak. The LPG system uses the pulses from the petrol ECU to fire the gas injectors instead. The petrol ECU doesn't know any different. However, the LPG injectors need to open for slightly longer than the petrol ones because of the lower calorific value of LPG so the LPG ECU adds a correction factor to the pulses from the petrol ECU. If the correction factor is wrong, the petrol ECU corrects the pulse length to get the engine running correctly but also detects that the pulse duration is outside the limits it expects it to be so brings on the engine warning light. The installer can set it up correctly by observing the fuel trims via the OBD port, if the gas ECU can't be set up to get the trims to an acceptable level then the system is not suitable for your SC, they are tricky to set up and need top quality components.

If it continues to run lean, it can totally destroy the engine, it will run very hot and could melt the pistons...

Any installer who says you have to live with it does not have the knowledge to do it correctly. Pete

Ok thanks, i will try some one else, i assume the LPG service for 60 pounds will be just changing the 2 filters and a quick glance over?

It does always seam very hot and a lot of ticking noise if you hoof it for a bit after you turn it off. I also have had to have the exhaust manifold gasket changed as all the bolt come lose. may be a heat issue.

thanks for you feed back i was going to leave it but now will try some one else
