I have a MaxxRaxx that works well - used to use it when towing a boat, but not used in a while

Bikes need crossbars, but worked ok with mountain bikes where the crossbars kind of dropped away rather than being parallel to the ground.

Unless you have a farmers hitch and can bolt one on then there will need to be some straps.

I just got a cheapo one from halfords, worked fine though i needed to protect the paint with some card. But got all the wat to france and back no bother.

Another vote for the maxx raxx with a height extension so the bikes clear the jockey wheel. Mine clamps around the swan neck keeping the ball free,,,,,

Dumb question time - why not put the bikes in the van during transit? Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

I have been looking for a bike rack (3 x bikes) for occasional use - So don't want to spend a fortune.

I don't have a tow bar / caravan so is the Halfords one (as per NMJ's post) still the best bet? 2006 4.2 SC

works perfectly well and for occasional use for 3 bikes its fine. a bit fiddly to set up the first time but after that is easy peasy.

the bottom straps need careful placement so they don't ping off, towing eye on one side is fine, the other looks like it should go in the hole in the bottom of the opposite bracket to the towing eye, it pings out of there! better in the recess on the side of the bracket. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I see that Halfords say that it's not compatible with any RR, I guess that is purely because you cannot open either tailgate with it in situ.

I was hoping for something that I could also use with out other car (07 Santa Fe) but it looks like that's not compatible due to the boot spoiler. Very annoying! Rolling Eyes 2006 4.2 SC
