Towing with FFRR TDV8

Having had my baby a week, I have now had the towbar fitted and am planning a dummy run with the tintent...

Anyone have any pointers for the towing....I am thinking of the car characteristics and any things that I should be aware of...having never towed with a FF before...I know it'll be a good tugboat...

Any issues with hot gearboxes at all in warm weather when towing for example, or would i be better with larger intercooler etc for better cooling.....am sure all fine but know my d3 gearbox got warm once or twice when working hard Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

They tow very well, biggest issue is keeping the speed down on the motorway. Extra grunt over the TDV6 in the Discovery is very noticeable with a bit of weight behind.

Wouldn't concern yourself with gearboxes and intercoolers unless you tow 3.5 tonnes up the Alps every day.

Thanks, assumed all ok but wanted to check....the torque seems incredible and I have decided not to remap but did wonder about cooler and maybe a larger intercooler ?

See how I go....no long distance plans until next year and tin tent is 1900kg laden

Thumbs Up Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

Mine is around the same weight laden and my TD6 pulls it as sweet as a nut, so a TDV8 will have no problem.

If you've ever towed with anything else, then you're in for a treat Thumbs Up

I towed my toy back from Bordeaux last week - 750 miles and no issues at all.

There's some fairly steep hills on the autoroutes in northern France and I could happily accelerate up them to pass slower vehicles that were struggling.

Thats the answer I wanted !!

I know the french autoroutes very well and your right; beteween Rouen and Calais there are some steep climbs that I know the D3 didn't miss a beat on but I have seen plenty that have !

Thumbs Up Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

The best tow car I've ever had....

I've just come back from 3 weeks in France towing my 2000kg twin axle caravan with my TDV8 (JE Remap) and had to be very careful not to go too fast. It sailed up the steep autoroute hills in Northern France, staying in top gear at 70 MPH.

No problems at all with a 1900kg van.

We are back now from a week in normandy with ours tows up hill and down dale very well. Requires no additional cooling unlike bmw's, it sat steady as a rock at over (ahem) 70mph on the autoroute for 7 hours with a couple of breaks, the only problem i encountered was squeaky steering after sitting in a queue for an hour however after leaving the q the squeak disappeared.

One thing i would say is never leave a cool box plugged in the boot, you will have a flat battery very quickly and will be stranded........been there done that got the t shirt. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

The TD6 is noticeably slower with 3500kg on the back- but still an excellent tow car. I'd imagine the V8 is even better.

Had 3 tonne on the back of the disco yesterday, was as solid as a rock, but seemed very slow compared to the tdv8 something akin to a td6 i should imagine as its a 2.7 not the 3 litre.

The best fun towing was with the 535d with my old lunar quasar, would beat most cars off the line even with the van in tow...... Not that i advocate drag racing of any form, especially with a caravan attached Whistle but it was very funny....... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Yes, the advantage of the V8 is you have the power to overtake properly - even with a caravan.

We are away in a couple of weeks and then for a few weekends before heading out at christmas so I cannot wait now to tow with this...

I said I wouldn'r remap either but you chaps are not helping by starting your answers with "my rempaped TDV8 tow is superb"....

On JE website now.... Thumbs Up

When I bought the Audi A8, It was a 535d touring i went to look at - but fell for the Audi hook, line and sinker Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

Snap.

It is truly awesome as a towcar, we regularly tow 2200kg van, it was weighed at 2390kg on our return from France this year.
