Hopefully this will be my final update on this matter. The (second) new ARC, plus software updates, have not only stopped the knocking but have transformed the car. It drives completely different, even more solid and positive.
A big thanks to Paul, the service manager at Farnell Bradford for finally getting it sorted.
Hopefully everyone else can get there's sorted quicker, and with fewer visits to the dealers, than me.

One final thought, next time I sign on the dotted line when picking up new car, I'll be taking out for a test drive!!!

I wish you well. I hope it does not return. I had the ARC replaced and latest software update and it lasted about 3 weeks before the knocking returned. After a personal visit form the Regional Tech Mgr from JLR it appears this is to be expected due to the way they have designed the dynamic response set up. I drove another brand new V8 L405 and it was the same. I suspect nothing will happen until they redesign the whole front suspension (which I think is in the pipeline) in view of the major problems JLR have experienced in those parts of the world where the roads are even worse than the UK. You only have to look at the thread two above this one about rejecting a L405 to see how many disgruntled owners there are out there. MY15.5 SDV8 4.4 A/B FFRR Mariana/Ivory
Ten other FFRR since 2002 either traded in or taken back by JLR

I was talking to a dealer today (an STDV8 AB caught my eye). It has had two owners. I asked "has it got the suspension knock?" The dealer claimed ignorance "Never heard of that - and we are on top of this stuff".

One of the main things that has made me hold onto mine rather than giving it back is that the dealer has been open about this issue from the start.

Either the dealer you spoke to has only been in the job a day or his nose just grew considerably longer Wink

On a separate note, I witnessed my ARC bar being bled last week. The tech connects it up to a laptop and the car does a dance on its suspension for a minute as it moves the fluid through the valves in a set sequence. A bit like those American low riders you see dancing on their suspension. Quite a party trick Laughing

Made absolutely no difference to the knocking mind Rolling Eyes

I have to say that my confidence in dealing with them went down at that point.

yep all of them Surprised
Look at it this way, whilst annoying and unacceptable given the price, it beats the Diff/gearbox/air suspension issues on early L322s.
I predict the next foible will concern the electric tailgate

Not a TDV6 issue - they don't have Dynamic Response/hydraulic anti-roll bar system which makes the noise.

I hope JLR get their act together soon and get these problems sorted - my tdv6 is on order and im starting to have second thoughts ! ordering and waiting for a new vehicle should be a good experience, now im just thinking about what could go wrong ! I had enough problems/niggles with my L322 when I bought that new - guess things never change

Lucky, don't lose faith. Apart from windscreen wash failure and the fuel sloshing noise that have both been fixed plus the intermittent rear wiper that hasn't, my L405 TDV6 is a pleasure to use on a daily basis.

^^ +1

The suspension has been fine on the loaner TDV6 I have driven. The problem is with the active suspension which is not on the TDV6. The knocking is the worst of the issues as it is the only one they do not have a fix for at the moment the rest of the known problems have been or can be rectified. So if you are happy with the TDV6 engine go for it and don't be worried, it is a great car.
