Suspension clonk and transmission fix..........

The two areas still needing attention with my 2002 V8 was a rather loud and annoying clunk from the front when turning right or taking the left front wheel over a pothole, I had replaced the drop links as they looked past their best and checked all the ball joints and track rod end, retightened all the front suspension bolts with the weight on the car, all to no avail.... The other issue was a very hard 1st to second change, hot or cold, I had put this down to a solenoid but not got around to doing much other than changing the filter and oil in the box....

Well these cars are wonderful.... they fix themselves.....

It had it's first proper off road outing at the weekend on some lanes in Lincolnshire, most of the lanes were fine but two had very deep wheel ruts and were also pretty muddy, A Land Rover 90 got stuck, an Isuzu trooper a Jeep Cherokee and a Nissan Navara... well the Full Fat put them all to shame and drove both lanes with no problems at all even on worn out road tyres, it's the best offroader I've had and i've had a few....

On the way to the meeting point we were running late and I drove pretty fast for the last 20 odd miles, certainly harder than it's been since I've had it, after about 5 miles it went into it's "my gearbox is too hot" mode and started holding the gears, no overheat message but it didn't want to change out of third, it cooled down after a few miles and returned to normal...

Well, we noticed on the way home that both faults are now "fixed" the suspension is as quiet as a mouse and the 1st to 2nd change is as silky smooth as the rest.... I recon the suspension was the antiroll bar to subframe bushes that had gone hard and have now had a good workout and are a bit more supple again and the auto box oil got hot and flushed the crud out of the solenoid.... Not had time to check the bushes yet, hopefully this weekend, and I will flush the box a few more times and check the oil cooler and rad to ensure it's getting cooled OK...

Anyone with any thoughts please let me know....

Certainly like these free fixes though.... Very Happy Very Happy

Rather muddy lane.... had a bit of wheel wobble after this....

Parked next to a RRC with a 4 inch suspension lift and 2 inch body lift.... doesn't look that much lower....

One of the lanes (only shallow ruts here)

A bit of road driving cleaned the wheel up....

Then spent two hours with the jetwasher.....!!!

No but he did have a Salisbury rear axle so he's lost about two inches of clearance against the stock one!!! Pete

Thumbs Up
I too have a sailsbury axle on the 90, they are a tad low so know what you mean, you can trim them down a bit though, means a lot of work and the crown wheel is a little smaller.
I hope your mate has changed the shafts in it as there week as Censored , they are no stronger than standard half shafts and if he has a rear locker, take it from me he will snap them.....unless you fit ashcroft half shafts that is Thumbs Up

I used to do a load of challenge events in uk and Ireland so the 90 was built for them events. Mr. Green If it dont work.......burn it!

He's got a tuned v8 running through it and has broken just about anything you care to mention....

Spends more time under it than in it!!!

What makes me laugh is that it looks like a shed but is still probably worth more than my FF Pete
