Do you have to get the car on its side to access the turbo ?

Turbo is off no problems at all. Will be replacing with the refurbished one tomorrow morning. Along with new main oil gallery pipe a few gaskets and some new exhaust manifold nuts. Will all let you know how it goes. Bushy

I'm not certain without removing the drivers side suspension arm you'd be able to drop the turbo out the bottom. It's quite a big unit to try and squeeze. So because the rocker cover and air box are all interconnected and you cant get one off without the other. It's all got to come off. Bushy

i thought you take the air filter out then remove the 3 grommets in the bottom of air box then slide the heatshield to get to the 3 turbo bolts then from underneath remove exhaust pipe ,2 pipes and the bracket and it comes out the bottom, correct me if i am wrong as i am going to replace mine soon . |

The gromets are defentately there and that sounds possible but like I said I don't know if you can remove it from the bottom. It's probably really really simple if you have a pit or can lift the chassis off the ground to open up the clearance. When are you thinking of doing it? Because if that's possible, just in off road height for example, then it's defentately worth posting the results on here.

What issues were you getting with the old turbo to think of changing it? Only interested as mine has developed a whine/ whistle when it's on boost I have checked all the turbo boost pipes and all look good and don't know what to check next ?

the same as you ,it makes a noise on boost as though there is a leak but all the pipes have been checked ,i have got a turbo that had only done 500 miles off a bmw so going to fit that. |

Mine was whistling from day one, apparently a little whistle is normal on these engines. But excessive probably means the actuator is sticking.
