battery/alarm issues

Hi

Got a wee issue with the FF - alarm had been going off and now battery dead, I had stupidly assumed the beeping noise was coming from next door who has been getting major landscaping works done so been diggers/dumpers/lorries beeping away for last 2 weeks and I've just got used to it. Went to use the FF today and totally dead and cant get in as the key just turns in the lock. Used the previous method of hooking up another battery via the side indicator (worked for me fine before) got some power in and alarm just kept going off and neither remote will open the door - alarm kept going off till the juice ran out and now when I try this again I am getting absolutely nothing........... Anyone any thoughts? Battery is less than a year old and car had a longish run on Sunday with no issues at all. I moved it last night and was fine, wish I hadnt as had been unlocked before this.

Thanks

Do you have a towbar and electrics?
If so connect a battery charger to the Supplementary plug.

Have you got towing electrics fitted?

If you have either the 12S or 13 pin continental sockets, you will have a live feed for a caravan, you could connect a 12v feed to this - it is normally capable of taking 15 / 20A, so should provide enough power to the immobliser ECU to at least get you back in to your FF. Thumbs Up

One other thought - if you are feeding via the side indicator, surely this will only put power across the battery if the ignition is 'on' and the indicator switch is selecting that lamp? With the ignition 'off' and the indicator stalk in the central position, the lampholder will be open circuit.

Hate to be a 'harbinger of doom', but when you do get back in, chances are your battery will be toast as they don't like to be run completely flat Big Cry

Anyhow, best of luck, hope you get sorted. Thumbs Up 2006 (56 Reg) 4.4 V8 Vogue In Bonatti Grey (Gorgeous!!)

the side indicators take power when the ignition is off as the hazard lights can be used in this mode.. ... - .- -.

Take your point Stan, but if you don't have the hazard warning switch pressed, the lamp will still be open circuit. 2006 (56 Reg) 4.4 V8 Vogue In Bonatti Grey (Gorgeous!!)

ok quick update - got a trailer socket that is wired up with a positive feed to number plate lights and an earth - connect it to a battery and all that happens is alarm goes off and remote fobs will not disarm the alarm or allow the doors to open. Any thoughts? getting worried now that will have to break in. Is there any other way to gain access without causing major damage?

I still think you need to connect a battery charger to your car instead of a battery.
If you leave the car connected to a charger or battery the alarm sounder should stop after a while leaving only the hazard lights flashing. That's what mine does.

If it is locked, I don't think that even if your break in (i.e. smash a window) you will be able to open the doors as they should be superlocked which locks out the unlock button etc.. There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t

whey hey finally got the door open............ Very Happy just needed a little bit longer on the battery. New battery tomorrow - this one less than a year old so hopefully be a replacement and not cost me anything.

Thanks for the advice guys - really appreciate it. If you ever find yourselves in the North give me a shout and I'll buy you a beer.

Well done Thumbs Up
Now you just need to get the key locking on the drivers door sorted. Smile

A decent battery charger should be able to condition the battery and get it good again, though I understand you may not trust it now. Would give you a spare having fitted a new one, if that's the case.
