Well, bought a Westfalia (original RR) tow bar from the bay of e. A colleague of mine at work, who has an '03 FF spotted the listing, which was definitely for 06 on vehicles, complete with the correct part numbers, so he thought it would be no good to him, but would suit me.

Anyhow, managed to win the listing, and went to fit it to my FF on Thursday. Only problem was, once I had stripped my FF down, and got the tow bar out of the shed, it became apparent that it was the earlier type, as the exhaust mountings were different.

Having looked at the differences however, and examined the 2 'crash bars' you remove from under the FF prior to fitting the towing armature, I thought if I angle ground the 2 right angle brackets that the exhaust mounts to from these, I could just put them under the front mounting bolts, and I would be OK.

Rang Westfalia, and they confirmed that this was in fact the case - you can use the early armature on the later car by removing the exhaust mounting brackets from the crash bars, but the late armature will not fit the earlier vehicles.

i think it is all down to the exhaust brackets , if you can 'fettle' them then it should be ok.. ... - .- -.
