Can't see it being the speed sensor on the wheel or the instrument pack would behave normally, but wrong - ie it would record mileage and average speed at 50 mph. Also the steering will be pretty heavy as the servotronic unit will think you are doing 50.

you cant go wrong in trying a battery disconnection, details are in the wiki.. ... - .- -.

Thanks I will give that a try I looked at several eart points and they looked ok but I will take them apart when I do a battery disconnect. I will check alternator first as well as reading your forum suggests they are very sensitive Electrically. |

I meant was the speedo working correctly before you send the instrument cluster away for repair.

I'd say the instrument cluster has failed the self test then, mine goes all the way around and then back again.

Just be aware, the dash binnacle is a one hit wonder... i.e. you cannot reprogram me it into another car once it has been programmed. |

Ah, so you can't replace it with a unit from a scrapper, or even substitute it to aid fault finding ?

Yes, unfortunately you VIN lock them when you programme them. So, no you cannot test it with another... |
