I would have thought that as I was quoted for an exchange unit, you ought to be able to reset it perhaps, but to be honest, Craig knows far more than I.

I'd speak to a few repairers and be double sure it's your issue before you do anything.

Had a quick google.

These folks may advise

I would think the speedo dial (you look at) would be built into the dash binnacle and a devil to change (if even possible) Shocked

They are VIN locked to prevent milage fraud at a guess... Certainly not re-programmable with T4... Sorry Crying or Very sad

I remember back in my BMW days, that the mileage was stored elsewhere, so when the cluster was swapped, the mileage reverted to the correct reading.

But that was nearly 20 years ago. Who knows how they do it now.

Interested to hear what they say about speedo test then. From their website, looks like they ought to know what they are doing. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Instrument clusters an be swapped between cars ... However .... The units when reprogrammed will always assume the highest mileage of any compnent installed cause different units store the mileage reading and cross refer then as a security check. Engine ecu, cluster ecu and lighting ecu all certainly do, and there is probably more. .

So if your car has done 50k miles and your replacement came from a car that's done 75k miles, then reprogramming will make the whole car jump its mileage reading upto 75k miles. ... Its a means by which to stop clocking the mileage reading.

What system is the mechanic using to read / clear the errors? The RR can store errors in multiple ecu's and where the original error might be cleared by the original ecu that threw it, the error can still be logged and displayed by other ecu's unless they are cleared too.

So you need all the errors of the car read and cleared sometimes.

Hi Pete - I had this problem before as well - it turned out the problem was the speedo gauge motor - it was replaced by the company who fixed the pixels at the same time - I think it cost £25 extra for the new motor. The fact the the BMW self test only sent the needle to 45 seems to tally with the same problem I had.

I suspect they damaged it when doing the pixel repair. If the company you used aren't able to repair it, then send me a PM and I'll let you know who I used who will fix it for you,

Thanks for the offer Nick and the reply. Thumbs Up

I rang my repair company and they said that the speedo should go right the way around during the dash test.
I explained that i do not know if i have a fault interfering with the dash cluster or what is wrong.
They asked me to send the dash back to them and they will fit a new speedo motor and test it.
That way when i have it back and re fit the dash i will know for sure that the dash works 100% and if it does not work properly in my vehicle i need to look for the fault somewhere else.
So good on them for their customer service. Thumbs Up

So i will post the dash off and keep you posted on the outcome when it is returned to me.

Fingers crossed Bow down

I thank you all again for your replys as i would not be in the position i am without your excellent input. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Quick update

Dash repair company phoned and advised speedo motor faulty.
I was originally advised that they would repair it under their 2 year warranty because i had originally asked them to test it.
But i was later told that it would cost me another £100.00 and that it worked fine when they tested it the first time.
SO MUCH FOR A SO CALLED 2 YEAR WARRANTY Censored
After a heated discussion they dropped their costs to £40.00
Having now fitted the dash back on the vehicle the dash test now works correctly. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

I Thank all of you again for your spot on advice. Bow down Bow down Bow down Bow down Bow down
