We have one on TDV8 MY2010 because the value is over £50k. At that level it is not an option. You MUST have one. Did not get any quotes without insisting it was fitted.

Privilege (Direct Line/RBS) said I had to have one. Luckily, one was already fitted so all I needed to do was activate it.

When people say that a "tracker" is needed, are we talking any old tracking device or an actual VHF tracker? |

I'm just curious, as from personal experience I am now convinced that the cheaper GPS type is pretty crap, unless it's just for seeing where your drivers are...

Any insurer linked to Royal Bank of Scotland (Direct Line/Churchill/ and a few others) insists on a Tracker for cars with a value over £50000 or are "desirable" (Subaru Imprezas?) because RBS owns Tracker! I insure with the "old" RSA group Land Rover Insurance - I called them to insure the FFRR and in the automated calling systemn touched 1 for new business and was taken off the Royal and Sun Alliance exchange to somebody called Land Rover Insurance by Brit-Insure. They quoted £695 and insisted on a tracker being fitted....................... when I redialed RSA and went through to one of the other numbers on the exchange they quoted me £11 increase of premium (so that's £440pa foor the FFRR including offroad use and recovery) and no Tracker required. I then did some research and found the new Land Rover Insured is a rip off through Stratstones Cheltenham branch and Brit-Insure - Brit-Insure is underwritten or owned by RBS - same as Churchill and DL and a host of other "discount" insurers including Privaledge. When Brit-Insure sent me the prospectus for there policy not only was I paying near 100% higher premium than with RSA, I had to buy and have fitted and then subscribe to Tracker and there cover was nowhere near as good as Royal and Sun Alliances cover (eg only 28 days a year continental use, trailers and roof racks contents not covered, no offroad recovery, etc etc). I asked RSA about this and they told me that Land Rover had decided to use a different supplier but that existing clients could remain with the same cover they have always had with Royal and Sun Alliance. I have 2 Land Rovers on RSA policies. What was a real shocker was that RSA insure my Defender under their Land Rover scheme for £156 a year, Brit-Insure wanted £595 for the same cover and insisted on a tracker being fitted to a 14 year old car! Some improvement Land Rover!

We got broken into. They took the key to it. Luckily, I was only away for a few minutes so I was able to alert Tracker before it got too far away. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded |
