2016 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Carpathian Grey
Full Fat in London Town

Hello All,

Just taken a deposit on my BMW M5 Touring so it'll be off soon and it's time to replace it.

I've had a hankering for ages for a FFRR - most likely the TDV8 as there's no point in getting one of the big petrols as the fuel consumption will be just as "fun" as my M5 but it still won't be anywhere near as fast.

So - couple of questions:

1.) Width Restrictions and Full Fats - we have loads of them round here in London - in general do they fit ok? I assume the mirrors generally are higher than the posts?

2.) Height - Are we out of bounds to the central london multi storey's/underground parks?

3.) USB/Ipod connectivity - I'm after anything between a 2007 to late 2009 Vogue SE - did USB/Ipod connectivity come as standard or was it an option?

4.) Spotted a nice looking one in the colour I'd want on Autotrader - but it has a pair of fairly hideous roof bars on it. They look to be Landrover fit ones - can you take them off easily?

Thanks guys - I'm sure I'll have more questions..

1 - not sure

2 - about 190cm so depends on the car park

3 - depends how much integration you want. The VSE has an aux in so you can easily play the iPod - there is an integrated kit but costs around £500 and is semi-Integrated at best

4 - bars come off easily - but if it has rails, they don't

Thanks Alistair, it has rails. Rats. Really makes the car look too too heavy IMHO.

On another note - none of them had DAB radio until 2010?

Rail do get off easily (a few Allen or Torx screws, IIRC), however if you never want them one again, it is advise to replace the trim underneath them. These are not really expensive but come unpainted.

If you do not change them, you will have several 4x1inch holes on said trim. however you can not really see them. you could simply put some sealant or a plastic cap on the threaded bit receiving the rail bolts. l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

Sorry - should have been more detailed - on the roof there are 6 flaps - you can open these to secure the Range Rover OEM roof bars - you can then remove the bars & close the flaps.

To fit the rails, you need to snap off the flaps.

Whilst you can remove the rails easily enough, you cannot buy the flaps as a spare part. You may be able to source some from a breakers, or as verydisco says, if you're certain you'll never use them, then just fill the holes with silicone or something else.

They are up on the roof, so not that visible to most people.

Thanks Guys. Makes sense.

On the DAB question - am I right in thinking no car had it until 2010? My wife is obsessed with the station choices..

Very Happy Widely indeed - like £1k wide Shocked

Vogue SE has a handy Aux In socket - not sure about the Vogue - so I'd go with something after market if you can find a discreet place to fit it.

Never not got through the typical 6'6" restrictions , but i avoid where possible .
Not so much for mirrors sake, but to avoid kerbing the wheels Big Cry

With regard to height, you can lock to access height, into "crawl mode". Only done it a couple of times.

Roof strips + clips are something like. £120 a side iirc. Unpainted. Alcohol and eBay is never a good mix

Craig,

Is it just a case of swapping out the Radio module for the DAB capable one from a 10MY FF/SS/Disco??

I have wondered about this in the past you see.

for iPod/Phone connectivity you really need the Audio Connectivity Module which then uses a lead to connect to the iDevice. No L322 supported music over Bluetooth as standard fit.

As above though save some money form the budget if you can, high milers aren't anything to worry about if they have good history and have been looked after and can save you a packet, also they lose less money over a few years as they were already cheaper to start with. There are some much cheaper SC's out there as they have been spotted for sub £10k, but they are very high miles, knocking on 200k which could or could not be a money pit depending on the love they have had lavished on them. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
