Missing pixels on LCD display, how to repair?

Hi guys my car has missing pixels on the LCD display as shown in the photo - what's the best way to get this fixed and what kind of cost is involved? I have seen a ribbon repair kit available on eBay that claims to fix it, anyone have any experience of it?

Also noticed your top back light on the left hand side of the display is out - just like mine. Does anyone also know how to repair this ? Is it just a bulb or one of the soldered in LED's ?

There are companies in the UK that do those kind of things for not even 200£ . I think there is a thread somewhere on this item. Try the search button

done mine a few years ago this is NOT a DIY job for the inexperienced, what a nightmare stripping the clocks down and drilling blind holes to expose the torx pins that hold the clocks together.
my advice would be to send it off for repair

Hi,

Did last summer, they are small bulbs, just screw in. You need to remove the top of the dash, took me over an hour.

Bought the bulbs on the internet, not expensive, from a BMW spare website, as they share the same bulbs.

Alot of hasle for not much, but it did make me crazy

Bulbs are easy to replace - the pixel display not so much! Completely agree with ironhorse - not a DIY Job for the inexperienced.

Having said that, some people have managed quite well!

Thanks for the advice, from what I gather there is a guy in Southampton who repairs but does anyone know of a repairer in the midlands area who provides a similar service?

Also is having the Dashboard LCD not working a mot failure?

My pixels on the radio are very hard to read.
Was told all I had to do was remove the unit and clean the connection with some rubbing alcohol.??

Thanks

just done mine, not too difficult hardest part is aligning the ribbon up. take your time. don't need to drill holes just remove needles with removal tool (looks like scissors but has small grooves on blades)

clean old sticky with nail polish remover make sure its clean.

the kit I got was for the screen attached to ribbon

Some on eBay are £75 upwards so not too expensive now. That's with them doing the job so no hassle. _____________________________________________________
