The BMW issue is I believe just 1&3 series but still requires them to break some glass to code the new key thru the odb port.

Little bit lax at mine with keys, they should be on the hook, but tend to get left near the front door, however yo would need to be a demon key hooker to swipe them!

Mate of mine had the hard top stolen from his m3 BMW and car was right under his bedroom window. Turns out that the £3000 roof only needs to useless levers to be undone, with a small crack in the windows. My 99 Merc sl needs the engine on, so the keys, to take the roof off and the noise of the car letting go of the roof would wake the dead.

Good luck nicking mine, cold start and the exhaust wakes the dead! Not sure the neighbours love me at 6:15 every morning heading to work though...

The densest thing i did was to somehow manage to leave the boot of swmbos car open the daY before we went on holiday, talking wide open not just unlocked, full of stuff, camcorder, camera, satnav, lenses. In the morning all were gone. Doh! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Sorry, but must take issue with the statement that anyone who leaves keys etc. accessible deserves what they get.
