removing of scratches on car - what would you do

as posted on here before, i recently (about 2 weeks ago) bought a silver 2007 Range Rover 4.2 SC.

The car is a beaut - however there are a few issues, which include some scratches on the body and the rear bumper.

The dealer is prepared to have it removed, either resprayed or polished out; but the sales manager cautioned that it could be to my disadvantaged if the car is resprayed as it could have a negative effect on the trade value if picked up when i want to resell.

my question is - what would you do - would you get them to remove the scratches by having it resprayed or would you live with the scratches?

as said the car is a beaut - ive done about 3000kms (+-2000miles) since i got it and it has not missed a beat

the other issues are things that the dealer actually called me to remind me to book the car in for the issues to be rectified - things like bent wheels, replacement of spare tyre

Vnitos, take photos of the panels and bumper, when you go to move the car on you will have proof that the car had no serious damage, and tell them to make a good job of it Whistle

What would you rather buy, a car with a good paint job, or one that has scratches, and over time rust Shocked

Sounds like he is trying to get out of painting it for you.

Depends on the quality of the paint job. If its a deep through the paint scratch then a quality blended panel spray/match is the only alternative. Thumbs Up

update - just left the dealership - they will respray the car. Must say Im quite impressed - I did not arrange a car to use beforehand, but when I left my car, the salesman actually offered me a car - not in the same league (only a VW Polo), but at least something to use in the meantime.

Car was immediately sent for the repair of the wheels and other things will be done as soon as the wheels have been refurbished. respray will be done later during April

just a pity im going to be without it for a couple of days now - i quite enjoy the car - the effortless picking up of speed, etc. gonna be a long 4 days Big Cry

if you can see it's been resprayed, then it's not been done properly. bodyshops are well kitted out thesedays, and insurance companies have their own assesers to judge repairs etc. if he is sub'ing it out to a dodgy railway arch type cash job tax dodger, then it will possibly not blend in or even mismatch. remember, you have the right to complain. -and that comment about the resale value, is just leverage on his side, making you feel like it might go awry.

and don't judge the repair when its covered in raindrops either!

dealers like to tell people that a bumper repair spray job, is around £120 (when you are buying a car) -it is if its a bad one, however a little more, and you get a perfect job. -really.
remember, these cars were expensive new, and look great. keep it that way.

you don't see Royces, and Ferraris, with mismatching bumpers.
