over the last couple of weeks I've noticed a small pool collecting under the car just behind the rad. It doesn't always happen but it seems to be more so than not! There doesn't appear to be any pattern to it either that I cna see.

I have collected some of this liquid on my finger - there's no smell and it's definitely not oil although it does appear to have a very very slight reddish tinge (that could be due to the road surface or what it's 'touched' on the way down. When looking at the underside of the car the droplets seem to collect on what looks like a cross member behind the rad.

Car temperature is fine, nothing else weird happening I think although yesterday it seemed to have low power - almost like something was slipping. I pulled over, turned off - put it to petrol (mine is LPG'd) and was fine - even managed to change back to LPG shortly afterwards.

It's a 2004 4.4 v8 FFRR

Still got the issue of not being able to read the diagnostics so need to take it back to Jamesons and get that sorted too!

check fluid levels

when its cool undo the rad expansion tank, check the level, see manual for guidance. the bobbing 'float' will tell you if you are losing water, (or mixed coolant). if its up and fine, dip finger or a cotton bud, and compare colour to what you found. if its more red than pink (from the floor) , check you steering fluid, again, see manual. (round bottle) my hunch is a water/coolant leak. sort of common to have an old radiator start to corrode and leak (on this model and age). not expensive, (£130 new pattern part) and no more than 1hr to change. its a DIY job if you are competent. you would need to read up on how to remove viscous fan first. check fluid levels

you can buy a gallon of pink coolant from euro car parts for £20 to replace your fluid or a smaller to top up. 50/50

Most local garages can do a pressure test on your cooling system and if a small leak is found then ten quids worth of K-Shield should do the trick.

I wouldn't put K-Seal anywhere near the cooling system. Yes it will bung up a small leak, but it will also bung up your cooling system and cause lots of heavy duty expense.

It sounds too far forward to be the AC as that normally falls around the Gbox. Out of curiosity what colour screen wash do you use? It could be coolant or power steering fluid. But these normally have a thicker viscosity ( unless you're running very weak coolant )
If you have been using the screen washer and one of the connections has fallen off or pipes has a slight cut. This could cause a small leak. Just a thought.
But if in doubt get your system pressure tested and get a good head torch and try and chase the leak as high as you can see. Good luck  Bushy

I've not noticed any issues with the car overheating/ temp gauge showing excessively high so wouldn't have thought it was coolant?

Hi,

checked the coolant level today and it was quite low - I had to use a 1litre bottle of ready-mixed cooland to bring the float back up to the max level.

My usual car spares place wasn't open and therefore I had to use blue coolant - I guess there's no material difference and it's just the colour??

Will check the level later today/ tomorrow morning after it's parked up and see if it's dropped again.

there is a difference in the coolant, you can mix green and blue and can mix red and orange, but you shouldn't mix red/orange with blue/green. I have heard they can react with each other and gunge up the cooling system 56 TDV8 Vogue SE

How do I know for certain what colour mine is originally? I've definitely topped up 1l of blue so have I something up?

Seems that the leak is not there this morning!
