United Kingdom 2003 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Giverny Green
2002 L322 Vogue V8 Low Oil

Hi all,

I was hoping someone on here could give me some advice.

I viewed a 2002 L322 Vogue V8 this morning and it ticked all the boxes - full LRSH, low mileage, no problems with the suspension etc. The only issue is that when I checked the oil, the dipstick was completely dry (and I checked twice).

Are there any innocent explanations for this or should I be worried?

Thanks.

Be worried!

A 12 year old car might be using a bit of oil by now, but to leave the dipstick dry might worry me, on a well maintained vehicle.

Means that owner doesn't check regularly and only waits for service time, if car is using a bit of oil

Not enough was put in at the last service

Wrong dipstick ????

Any smoke from exhaust on startup, or on quick - hard revving/acceleration ? (Might need two of you)

Any ticking/clattering noises in the engine bay whilst engine running? .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink

I cannot think of any explanation that would stop you worrying if you bought it. When was it last serviced?

It would be more than enough of a reason to make me walk away - there are plenty out there... 4.2 Supercharged Vogue SE

I am told by camtechcraig that these v8 engines require a decent level of oil at all times or damage can occur, especially to the heads! A dry dipstick is awful to see on any car! I would avoid.

Thanks very much for your help - have decided that it's not worth the risk.
