Franco-German road trip

Three day road trip with the Rangie and glider trailer on the back for 2/3 of it.

Day 1 - Hampshire to Chalon-sur-Soane, France, 524 miles.
Day 2 - Chalon-sur-Saone to Poppenhausen, Germany, 456 miles.
Day 3 - Poppenhausen to Hampshire, 600 miles.

What a machine for long distance driving, I felt great after 1,500 miles! Cruise control makes a big difference, just point it down the road and relax. Fuel consumption was 23.4mpg with the trailer on the back and 28.5mpg without it, all driving done at about 70mph. The fuel consumption calculator on the display seems to over-read with the trailer on, it said 26mpg, but was accurate later on without the trailer.

The first two hours going south on the A26 about lunchtime was interesting, watching the UK ski contingent heading home. Mile after mile of D4s and D3s (mainly D4s), I reckon I passed about one every 15 secs on average. A few FFRRs too, but very much in the minority. Quite an illustration of how well JLR have done in the last few years, selling D4s to well to do buyers who ten years ago would have made the same trip in Merc E-series and BMW 5-series estates.

700 mile round trip over four days to Galway via Dublin.
Never missed a beat and returned 24 mpg. That new motorway to Galway from Dublin is awesome. Once you are out of Galway its only 2 hours and no coppers!

As Mr Plop kindly advised me to remove the light tint off the front side windows ( or receive a fixed fine and still remove tint) yesterday, this morning had the great plesure of removing the glue off the glass, thankfully just over 1 hour later the job was done so I could get on with other things! If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

Thanks to all the great advice on the form and the beauty of the search function, I managed to sort the PDC - a front sensor had a wire loose - a quick solder and tape up and 40 minutes and all sorted Thumbs Up 4.2 Supercharged Vogue SE

looking at my one and only Ikea experience, that took hours, I probably would never ever fly a glider I had to put together myself. Smile

Fanders, so great to see the old girl!

I loved my continental trips in her, lots of great memories to ski resorts and south of France villas.

Today I scared our newest member to death with a very short but rapid blitz in the Black Bomber before he took delivery of his first RR, a 4.2 SC.

No TPMS on this one then

Spent 20 minutes or so changing the OSF wheel on my FF on the hard shoulder of the M3. Sad

Luckily not a blowout, as I was in lane 3 doing Censored and managed to get across to the hard shoulder quite easily.

Not too much in the boot thankfully, just the dog. My wife took her up the bank whilst I got on with things.
A little later a volvo estate pulled in just ahead and a kind lady offered us a dog crate for ours in case she was frightened with all the noise. This lady had seen us from the other carriageway, turned back at the next junction and come to us specially. Bow down Bow down I know she won't see this, but it just goes to show how thoughtful some people are Thumbs Up

Our dog was sitting very tight to my wife, but not too bad really so we let her go on her way.

I had assumed TPMS was fitted to mine, but just normal valve stems. You learn something every day Exclamation

And it was a bright and sunny day too Cool

Here's a picture of the glider:

It's an 18m single seater, made by the famous old German company Alexander Schleicher, some info here if you're interested:

RRUK, she's running great! Just past 110k miles now Very Happy

Cheers, Fanders
