washer fluid

Washer fluids ..... I've always used whatever I could find, eg recently Halfords washer fluid.

Turns out, BMW's own washer fluid doesn't like to be mixed with anything else & as a result the wifes 3 series now has blocked washers ( appears to be blocked at the pump at the bottom of the reservoir ) Evil or Very Mad

Anyway, what's the situation with the LandRover fluid ( that I'm assuming my Rangy was filled with at its recent service) ? OK to be mixed or should I stick to their own OEM stuff ?

BMW MD told me in the past to be careful with what screenwash was used, I think they said use organic only or something.

This was one of a couple of links on the forum that made me buy LIDL screenwash, for the winter at least, and several months in, all I can say is it's excellent, safe in the knowledge it won't freeze (although a mild winter anyway). Not seen any "don't use it on the RR" posts:

Thumbs Up

Here is one good reason to use some form of screenwash rather than just plain water.

This was from a few years back but the research did seem pretty conclusive. Testing vehicles that never used screen wash highlighted legionnaires bacteria in 1 out of every 5 washer bottles, but no cars with screenwash added had any legionnaire bacteria present.

By spraying the contaminated water onto the windscreen it was suspected that legionnaires bacteria would enter the car via the ventilation system as a fine mist or spray is produced when the screenwash function is activated. Actual figures for how many of the UK cases are down to this method were calculated to be approx 20%. I guess there is also potential to infect others that are not even in the car, as use of the screenwash function in built up areas will also release legionnaire bacteria with the potential to infect pedestrians, cyclists etc.

If you think about it your washer bottle through the summer months will be an ideal place for legionnaire bacteria to survive and live. Its dark and the washer bottles often pick up residual heat from the car engines etc.

A quick google search will bring up plenty of hits on this subject.
