Misfiring, Shutting Down, Losing Power - V8 Vogue

Hi guys,

Got an 03 4.4L V8 Vogue, was running perfectly fine until about a month ago, start losing power on a dual carriageway, went into limp mode. Started it again, running fine. Last 2 days, it's started misfiring a lot, lost all power on a road, turned ignition, starter motor ran but didn't start. Called AA, techy thought it was the Mass Air Fuel Sensor, he unplugged the wire in the engine bay, managed to get it home. Now it either doesn't start at all or starts for 1-2 seconds then cuts out.

We're either thinking MAF or Fuel Pump? Any ideas, what else could it be?

Getting a diagnostic tomorrow, see what happens Confused

Garage done a diagnostic, no errors Confused

It was firing up yesterday but as soon as you touch the throttle, engine would cut out.

Today it's just cranking but not firing at all.

They think it's the Crankshaft Sensor (hopefully).

Craig, would that actually stop the car from firing up? It's now cranking but engine isn't firing up.

Thanks Craig, I'll look into that. I'm thinking it could possibly be the fuel pump aswell?

If the MAF was unplugged and it got you home then I'd still be considering the MAF as the problem. It's failure can result in exactly the symptoms you describe. It happened to me.

Is there an engine management light showing?

Do you have a simple obd2 code reader. Even the most basic ones will be able to show what the error code is to give you a starter for 10.

I put a thread up on here about MAF a long time ago and the problems I was having at the time. If he MAF reads wrong, then it gets confused and alters the fuel levels incorrectly to the point that it's runs too rich or lean and can't start /run anymore.

Long story short ... If yr going to replace the MAF, Get a genuine one from land rover .... Nothing else, only genuine.

Just replacing a MAF will not reset the error light automatically, that will need cleared too. V8 or else ...
