Power Supply - Midtronic PSC-500 or Equivalent?

Hello,

I'm looking at getting a power supply so that I can use to make changes to the CCF functions on my RR. LR as well as the instructions in the IIDTool .pdf suggest that a Midtronic PSC-500 or the equivalent be use. I'm looking more into the equivalent at a much lower price, would anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Ctec get good writ ups on here and Lidl even sold something similar for about £12 in the UK , I think the important thing is to be a multi stage charger with microprocessor control . 2008 MY Supercharged

CTEK MXS 5/7/10 should do the job for you without any problems.

The 5 is on its limits with the FF but its the one i use it just takes a little longer if the battery is totally dead but for IID/Faultmate/Autologic work with the engine off it should be cool Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

For reprogramming/reflashing work you need something with a high current output. Guys over on DISCO3 use the CTEK MXS25 for this. The smaller ones don't have the current capacity to supply the vehicle when programming.

25amp charging power is a bit overkill for a car thats not running, but better safe than sorry i guess.

If your playing with multiple systems and powering your laptop from the car for the updates then i can maybe see why its needed as the longest update is Nav on the move and that can take an hour on a vehicle draing about 5-10amps at a tie could kill the smaller battery and charger on a D3/4/rrs. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Add up the current consumption of every ECU that's turned on when the ignition is on and you'll soon be drawing more than that supplied by the small charger.

There is a reason LR mandate a 50A supply Wink

Guess we are all stuffed then as 50amp chargers are just booster pack rated ones Very Happy

Maybe some jump leads onto a second battery and a normal charger would do the trick Wink FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Found a PM3-75 on ebay. I know 75 Amps is an overkill, but for the price and peace of mind.
