When I've carried dogs, they've jumped in and out themselves. I guess it's a problem if the dog is big and old/lazy.

I was just going to say that myself, we have 2 old(ish) working spaniels, both 11 years old, they used to be able to jump in themselves, but now they get their front paws on the tailgate and we lift them in, they jump out OK though!

My dogs just jump in and out also, however a friend puts his in access mode and uses a ramp for a retriever that is 2 years old |

I use a ramp for my Saint Bernard to get in, it's custom made and sturdy |

I've got 2 12 year-old Border Collies and I use a tintent step. One of the cheap plastic ones which can be bought for a fiver at most caravan accessories places. Kept in the boot of my (now) D3 and I chuck it on the floor, they use it to jump in, I pick it up and put it in the boot for the other end.

Thanks for the offer Kurt, I take it I can book a Swiss-Chalet that allows Bernese to stay... |

Your Berner are looking great. The puppys are adorable. Shame they grow so quick.
