United Kingdom 2017 Range Rover Vogue SE SDV8 Causeway Grey

We love the caravan lifestyle!
Our friends travel with us every year to Spain, and we take a few days travelling down through France with different stop offs.
The kids love it as well! Some of the sites in France and Spain are top notch, with the pool and restaurant facilities better than some 5 star hotels!

Nothing beats the evening in an awning with cheap Spanish booze, the kids in bed and a barbie on the go !! 2017 Range Rover SDV8 Vogue SE

before concluding the deal, check the terms of your annual licence agreement and how long is left to run on it with a unit which is several years old, and when you are expected to upgrade again to a new unit

I have bricks and mortar holiday homes. OK, costs to buy are higher and upkeep isn't cheap, BUT rental costs can be £250-£400 a week ! Plus, eventually, (like 25 years) they'll appreciated in value. All a caravan does is depreciate from the moment you step inside. I have apartments in Majorca and Tenerife and also a house in Tenerife - its approx 7 hours door to door at £200 flight costs and sunshine all year round (Tenerife)

can't fault it - and now's the time to invest in a holiday home abroad, some apartments have dropped in price by 50%

apartment in Tenerife is for sale on my website, which cost €130k 11 years ago, and is now just €90k !

I had both. A lovely static near Aberdyfi in Wales and a 26 footer Tintent.

We did lots more touring than we used the static so I sold the static. Wish I hadn't really but it was 100 quid a month for ground rent & electricity etc. The other deciding factor was I tend not to speed when towing, whereas the M54 and roads down into Wales were far too tempting in a Merc E55 AMG.

Thing is everyone is different. I have been known to take the tintent a massive 12 miles for a weekend away. Doesn't have to be a long way to be fun. On the other hand, a static's always in the same place. Depends if that bothers you really. It did me.

We have had seasonal tourers on the same site for many years, 3 years ago sold tintent and bought a motorhome, only kept it 12 months and then bought a static on the original site and thoroughly enjoyed the last 2 years spending quite a lot of time there, but while we enjoyed spending lots of time there we missed going elsewhere, also lots of people with statics go away for holidays either in the season or winter so we thought we would buy another tintent and hopefully have the best of both worlds.

We bought the tint ent so that we could travel Europe with our 3 kids and show them the different countries rather than just arrive at different airports which would mean nothing to them.
Ok we could still drive and stay in hotels, but most hotels will not allow 3 kids in a room, so the wife and me would be in different rooms with 2 and 1 kids respectively!
I don't think I would want my dosh in a property overseas, and would rather keep it in the uk.
The way I look at it if I ever needed quick cash, I could always take a mortgage on one of our prop ties in Wales which would be more difficult if the property is overseas.
We bought our first holiday house in Wales 10 years ago for £59995 and it's now worth about 200k.
Ok there would be CG tax to pay if we sold it, but still not a bad return. Plus we have had the fun of using it as and when we chose to.
We are completing on another property in 3 weeks time but will keep the original smaller house as a letting unit rather than sell it.
Some friends of ours bought a static the same time we bought our house for which they paid 30k.
They have paid ground rent every year, and the site closes over the winter months so they can't use it at Christmas for example.
They have now been told they must replace the static because it's 10 years old, and they must buy the static from the site owners!
So they now have to invest another 20k to change it!
I'm glad we bought bricks and mortar, but we also love the van for our annual trip to France and Spain in July/August.
We love the property in Wales out of season when the beaches are empty! 2017 Range Rover SDV8 Vogue SE

I agree with Vogue's comments.

A good friend of mine has been seriously considering a 'caravilla' for some time on the New Forest coast.

The problem he faces is that the homes require renewing when they get to a certain age on this site, as I'm sure many other sites will impose. This keeps the purchase cost low, but the useable time is limited. Conversely, the newer ones are on the market for significantly more.

However, rates are another overhead. Depreciation is reasonably high. You can't rent them out. There are 'site restrictions' and protocols to follow.

In short, it's almost the same cost to buy a flat in the chosen area. Capital costs are higher, but bricks and mortar will invariably appreciate in value (offsetting the higher purchase price) and you can rent it out without restriction if needed.

But do what's right for you. Logic isn't always the right way forward. Si. <This is my name.

Its tempting when at the site but I think if you reflect for a month you will decide its not a good investment.

I know it's not an investment Gaz. That's the thing though - it's not bought for that reason, it's to enjoy our free time in. That alone makes it worth it in my opinion.

Everything depreciates and costs money to run, houses being the exception I suppose.

I spend 6 days a week in a 24/7 response role working in Birmingham and it's surrounding suburbs dealing with everything society has to offer.

When I get my four days off, I want to unwind and get as far as I can away from the place! The tourer has provided this outlet well but I keep looking at these statics on the park and find myself wanting one. At the price I'm getting it for, and it's location on the park overlooking a small lake, I shouldn't lose too much if I do decide it's not for us in a couple of years.

I'm trying to upload a couple of pics but all I'm getting is "adding to album" and nothing else.

^^^ as they said you want something different than the tourer but not sure what. The static will be very nice but the reality is they are a money pit. We wanted a change from touring and thought about lots of options before buying in France. Know what you are saying about the job my holiday home is a relief from the stress of my job and its nice to just arrive and put the kettle on without the faf of pitching up. Think maybe it needs a lot of thought but I think we all want you to be happy with what u decide Mine was a blue one! Smile

My question was, whether to sell or keep the tourer. We are buying the static- no question about that. I was just wondering if anyone here had both because on other forums it seems to be either/or.
