Can you please help me to decide which RR to buy?3.6,4.4,5.0

Hi,
I have sold my Discovery 4 3.0 and would like now to buy an used RR.
These are the options I have found:
- a 2006 model 3.6 with 50/60K miles worth about £20K
- 2010 3.6 Autobiography with 50/60K miles worth about £37K
- 2010 5.0 Supercharged with 40/45K miles worth about £40K
- 2010 4.4 Autobiography with 45/50K miles worth about £ 40/42K

Apart from the cost of the car what is important for me to understand is the cost of the services and the mpg. I normally drive for 10K miles a year.
The 2006 model would be good for the initial low price and it seems really different from a 2010 model for the external style of the lights. Is this correct? what could be wrong in such an old model?
Do you think that the mpg of a 2006 3.6 would be similar to a 2010 5.0?

Between the 2010 models my heart suggest the 5.0 as the price is not so different and I don't drive for more than 10K miles per year. Is the service cost and reliability of the 5.0 so different from the 2 diesel? (3.6 and 4.4).

A final consideration, between the 3.6 and 4.4 (both 2010) there is a price difference of max £5K, is it eventually worth going with the 4.4 and 8 speed? the mpg is really so different from the 3.6 and 4.4?

Many thanks for your help

If you are going to choose a 3.6L TDV8 (excellent engine/trany), do not pay twice as much for the exterior just for facelift and LCD screen! (Note that you can get a bodywork facelift for £4000 on you £20.000 TDV8 for that matter)

I would suggest to either go with the inexpensive 2006/7 3.6L or go straight to the 4.4L with the superb engine en 8 speed trany.

Then again, if you can affort the S/C thirst just go with the 5.0L but bear in mind resale value may be less than the 4.4L TDV8 in a few years.

Then again you only live once Thumbs Up l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

Thanks, very useful comments.
Can you please tell me if you think that there is a considerable difference of mpg between the 3.6 and 4.4 and 5.0 and 3.6 (especially considering my annual mileage of 10K)?
Thanks

4.4 is better on MPG and I think is a better overall "ride" - I get around 30.5

4L4 is very slightly better than then 3.6L, nothing major, thanks to the 8 speed GB at around around 11L per 100Km (I think this is about real life 32mpg)

5.0 is almolst twice as much, or less in mpg (16mpg) if you do not press the pedal hard - but why would you not! Thumbs Up l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

I am right in the middle of the same research at the moment and I think that the 4.4 would be my choice of those on fuel economy and resale if my budget stretched to £40/- but sadly it doesn't!

Buy the one you like most because that will be the one someone else will want when it comes to resale time! 2016 (L405) Autobiography in Black with Ivory - for ULEZ

I would personally go for the 4.4TDV8 there's plenty of power and you can get good mpg. Only if your light on the go pedal.
The resale would be better than the other options too.
If you want a monster then go for the 5.0L supercharged but the value will drop more than the 4.4.
However Go for the 5l for the miles your doing.

Its a personal choice but drive them all you will then see what we are getting at Thumbs Up 2020 Porsche Panamera Turbo Hybrid (V FAST)

I get around 16-19 mpg for local trips in my 5.0 on a long journey i have had up to 25 mpg. I didn't buy it for its economy so that didnt worry me as some of the other cars i looked at where worse on fuel.

If i could go back and choose again, i'd still buy the 5.0. its turned out to be better than i expected

I'm doing 19MPG with the 5.0L on a long run, 18MPG local driving.
I used to do 21MPG with my 3.6TDV8.
So go for the 5.0L, especially with the mileage you're doing, not only for the added power but the power delivery is much smoother with no lag whatsoever, just constant power... A Bentley on stilts!

Thanks for your replies

It seems that the 3.6 and 5.0 are not so far in terms of mpg from what you are saying
Do you know if it's possible to compare the 3.6 and 5.0 for what concerns the service cost and reliability of these two engines.
Thanks

Apparently the 3.6 had some turbo problems, but mine was very reliable but probably didn't keep it long enough to have trouble (bought it new and sold it on within the warranty period).
4.4TDV8 is a very sweet engine but I didn't want to buy as it is fitted with DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) and I was told that this can cause trouble in the long-term when doing a lot of short distances as the DPF clogs up.

You would have to be careful with the turbos on the 3.6. they are not prone to going but they do go on high mileage cars.
As for servicing they should be about the same @ 10,000 miles a year you should be looking at £5-600 per year.

Turbos do dies on Range Rover Sport, much less so on L322 ascooling is really different (owners are so too...) l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l
