United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Vogue Supercharged Zambezi Silver

What about a 2005/2006 4.2 supercharged? You can find them at a good price and with more than £20K price difference compared to a 2010 5.0.
Are the two engines so different in terms of power and mpg?
Thanks

wasn't there a Top Gear clip of the 0 - 100mph - 0 race between the 4.2 and the 5.0?
iirc the 5.0 hit the ton and braked to a total standstill in half the distance of the 4.2
can't find the clip on youtube

it weren't the Fatty. it was the sport. but it illustrates the huge difference between the engines and drivetrains

To the OP I notice that your location is down as London, so some would say to be wary of DPF equipped cars (all 4.4s, some 3.6s) as it will presumably driven mostly in town, and this can cause problems.

Just another thought Thumbs Up

If it was me I would be buying a good 3.6 TDV8 for that money. You can get a well looked after one and then have it for a year or two and not lose so much money on it, and also gives you the money to spend on the normal servicing.

Doubling your budget for a car that you wont keep for a long time doesn't make sense for me as your doubling the amount of money you are throwing down the toilet if you aren't too fussed on the facelift which a good few members have now done themselves for about £1k<

The early 4.2's to me represent extremely good value for money.

If i could have an FF for the weekend and and off-road toy as well as one of my Veggie machines for eating up the high miles i do then it would be a serious contest in the future even with the reduced performance compared to the 5.0 but then the engine is much older but then repair and so forth for it is well known.

There are some mods that people have done to theirs and if you bought one for say £15k and then spent £1k on remap, exhaust and pulley upgrade(and oil change for the charger) then you'd release a few more ponies and lb's but i have a feeling the bigger charger on the 5.0l engine and improved induction setup helps a lot compared to anything else on the 5.0 Smile

I'm just reiterating what others have said, and also from personal experience.

To the OP, your budget has a vast range on it, so it's hard to say which is best.

My 3.6 was remapped, I used the extra power and still got 25mpg.

I drove the 4.4 on test drives and got about 28-29 mpg.

The 4.2SC and 5.0SC will do about the same mpg ( anything from 15-19) but they are very different cars indeed. The 4.2 is addictive with its Supercharger whine when you floor it, but the 5.0... It's just mental. I love every second in it, and the ability to overtake traffic like it's all standing still is brilliant.

The 4.2 whines whereas the 5.0 roars.

But anyway, only a total idiot would buy a 5.0, especially when they do over 20,000 miles a year ... Whistle Discovery 4 HSE

I did and thoroughly recommend it, the 4.4 V8 Diesel will leave most cars standing, and as many have described it the power delivery is like a plane taking off - no hesitation all the way through the rev range due to the massive torque.

If fuel costs and depreciation were less I might have considered a 5.0 SC, but I can drive her balls out all day, overtaking SC who are trying to conserve fuel and still get 26mpg, and if I am careful have even pushed it to 38 mpg on long motorway journeys sticking in the middle & inside lanes.

If the slight difference of circa 1 second 0-60 bothers you get it remapped by JE and show a clean pair of heels to the 5.0's Twisted Evil
