Sat Nav Draining Battery ????

Hi . I have just purchased a second hand mk.3 sat nav to replace the one missing when I bought it . It seems to stay live and lit up even when the ignition is off . The battery is flat every couple of days . Does anybody know if the nav should work with the ignition off ? Is it the fault of the cd unit or does the fault lay elsewhere ? HELP !!!!!

when you switch off the ignition and lock the door ,does the light not go off after about 15 minutes?

i'd take out the nav unit [as it was before] and see if that rectifies things ..
