I kind of think you already know the answer to that one... What will you put up with? In terms of reaccuring rust?

I personally would have it back there in a heart beat as it will look a mess within 24months I would guess... Thumbs Up

A Main Dealer repair means nothing. A lot of dealers simply farm the work out to a local bodyshop so unless the place happens to be good you will still get a lousy repair.

Remembering that Land Rover have paid for this under warranty it should have been done to factory standards, that's what LR Warranty would have specified, so if it's corroding again just a few months later then that surpasses even LR's poor attempts at factory corrosion protection.

Take it back and politely invite them to repair it to factory standards or you'll just take it to another dealer and claim on the warranty again. That should get their attention; they won't want LR Warranty knowing they've been doing a sub-standard job. You can bet good money they will have charged the warranty for the full monty and skimmed off a healthy profit by doing as little as possible.

I did not have to remove anything to fit them on the lip near the rear door arch. There was nothing there on mine, the bit that attempted to cover it was attached to the rear door arch, on the actual door, and was smooth rubber and rather thin. It's still there on mine, and just covers over the extra ones I've added to the lip itself, as in my pic above.

I bought 4 long ones, so I did have to cut all of them.

No doubt, given time, you could pick and choose from their parts bin, and maybe buy one thats the right length, but when I was in Gordon Lamb, the shorter ones were more expensive than the longer ones.........

Re your repair, I'd have it all cleaned up, covered in stone chip and then painted. Not the factory finish when bare. but that doesn't matter as you are fitting rubber strips over it........won't come back through then...at least not for a good amount of time........

Whether you get those that did the original repair to do it is upto you. I tend to think they have proved they can't do it already. that said, if they have been told to do it to factory spec, thats prob what they've done....... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

What would everyone suggest the best way to repair the rusty arches would be short of a new quarter or wheel arch?

Did the same with mine, once I sorted out the rust, got my rubber trims off an old rover 414 from the scrappies for a quid a piece, seems to be the way to go, I also packed the rubber trim with grease before fitting and wiped off the excess

Edit - Ha, hammie got in there before my compliments to him anyway Thumbs Up

Thanks all.

@ Paul - hammie posted on 'My Range Rover' (I think it was) his very thorough looking DIY rear arch rust repair and it looked like he did a cracking job. He sounds the type of chap who would happily give you the benefit of his recent experience.

Re ours, I'm wondering whether I should just take it to a body shop of my own choosing and simply pay for it to be done (better) myself.

What's stonechip please mjd?

It's what tends to be used underneath and is thicker and more rubber like. If painted over, tends to look like a hamerite type finish, so not factory. Have a look on google for images. Classic car restorers tend to use it under wheel arches, but we have the plastic liners. It's supposed to resist being chipped by stones, hence the name I think. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Just checked to remind myself:

The rear arches weren't done via LR warranty, they were done via "goodwill" because the MD sold me the car with the arches in the state pictured and I made representations within 48 hours of collection that the A.U LR pre sales inspection should have picked up on and repaired those arches before selling me the car because of the following LR A.U pledge:

"LAND ROVER COMPREHENSIVE MULTI-POINT INSPECTION - Behind the Land Rover badge is a wealth of specialist knowledge. All vehicles are given a comprehensive inspection by Land Rover trained technicians. Everything from the ** paintwork ** to the performance and safety is checked. Should any faults be found with the vehicle, ** they are rectified prior to display and sale ** using only genuine Land Rover parts."

Whilst agreeing (without quibble to be clear and fair to the MD) the MD did tell me that they would not normally repair something like that before selling an A.U car but would do the repair for us as a point of "goodwill" so that we were happy with the car.

cheers for stroking my feathers pld118, lol, its a simple if not time consuming job, I was lucky and mine looked worse than it was, no perforation, although I did have to skim fill part of it due to the pitting, as you said, for paul, I think most of the info is in the thread for my rr, you need to take the sill covers/ wheel arch inners off to do a proper job, and side steps too if fitted 2003 ffrr v8 vogue

Should be repairable either way under LR paint/anti corrosion warranty. If unhappy with the job done by original md find out if they have a recommended body shop In the area, take it there and get them to approve the repair direct with LR. As the car is au and within 6 years anti corrosion warranty should get done!

Don't pay for it.... Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Cheers chaps. I served my time as a panel beater so I'll manage the repair.
It was more a curiosity as to which rust remedies and the like everyone had used.
I have a fairly comprehensive plan to strip it back to bare metal inside and out.
If I had access to a workshop for a while I'd have replaced the quarter!!

paul if you look at my range rover section, the items I used are on there, which I got under recommendation, and they seem to work well, biggest problem I had was the weather doing it on the drive, especially the day it started to rain on my topcoat lol 2003 ffrr v8 vogue
