Scotland 2014 Range Rover Vogue SDV6 Santorini Black

Well, if it is not a genuine mistake on the seller's part, doubtless there will be an indelible footprint there somewhere (seek and ye shall find); and if previous concerns have been reported to the authorities about the same seller (even if having traded under another name) there should be records of that.

Good luck and hopefully you will get a positive outcome. Thumbs Up

I always thought that if the milage on one ECU didn't mach another ECU with it stored on a black dot would be placed next to the milage in the LCD read out on the dash . Is there a dot there on this one ? 2008 MY Supercharged

The good clockers change the mileage setting in multiple ECUs.

And some even know how to update ignition keys Whistle It's big business these days with some real pro's doing it.

But, like I said before, even the best of them doesn't have a time machine. If it has been clocked the somewhere in the records of the vehicle there will be an oddity which doesn't quite add up. If it's all genuine then it should all read properly.

Just spoke to a mate of mine who works for Porsche Whistle and he says that the ecu that controls the mileage display is easy to change and they often do it if a vehicle has a new speedo etc. What they cannot change is the vehicle clock which is based on time that the ignition is on. It is not possible to change this by any means (on Porsche cars) so if a car is 10 years old and has 3000 hours on the time clock (which he said was about average) but any more than 60,000 miles on it - then something is wrong and it has been clocked. He said there was a rule of thumb in miles vs time, that they work on but he couldnt tell me what it is.

He said it is possible to get finer detail than this and he has heard of this in the case of a fatal accidents etc but they cannot do it with his level of software.

I read somewhere that Paul Walkers car was doing 100mph at the point of impact so the information is stored in the ECU.

If you read the first few pages of our handbooks there is a disclaimer that information from the ECU is available usually with a court order.

United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Stornoway Grey

Gents, I'm new to ffrr. 6 month ago I purchased my first rr. 57reg 3.6 TDV8 Vogue SE with all the trimmings. Im very happy with the motor but started to dig into the history... I have found the landrover have a comprehensive history for this vehicle from new till 2011 showing mileage upto 76000. I purchased the vehical with 59000 on the clock at the end of 2013. all previous mots support that mileage. All the previous mot's and service indicated in the service book were done at the same garage. I haven't made contact yet with the garage that done the mot's but have spoken with the garage I purchased the vehical from and they are looking into the matter..... I definitely believe land rovers history to be correct and the vehicles mileage has been adjusted At some point.
Could I take the vehical to land rover and them be able to tell me if and when it was clocked..?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

@ garr10210,

If your car has in fact been deliberately "clocked" for the purpose of being able to sell it for a greater amount than it's true mileage would otherwise have secured:
Then, the hard copy MOT's, the hard copy service "history" to which you refer; any records of the sales advert(s); and your original sales invoice showing the mileage up to 59k, along with your car of course, are good examples of primae facie evidence that they are dishonest documents that were created to deceive you at the point of sale (supported/ betrayed by the actual LR records you have found).

Whatever you do, if you do suspect clocking, do not let the suspected clockers/ the selling garage have access to the original documents they supplied you with.

If you report your concerns to the LR Service Manager where you believe the car was properly serviced and where the true records are, they should be sympathetic such that they assist you to directly compare the history you were supplied with, offset against what records they have. If no indelible date of mileage adjustment is logged in or can be retrieved from the car's memory, you should still be able to create a straightforward timeline that will highlight if, when and where the integrity of the car's history went awry.

Below is an interesting link re an investigation undertaken by Autoexpress about clocking and there is also a Trading Standards link. If you've done your homework and do believe your car has been clocked, as part of your taking positive action to right the wrong, you should report the matter to Trading Standards:

Your MOT certificate should give you details of the last 4 x MOTs with date and mileage so it should be really easy to see if it has been recently clocked or not.

Or am I missing something? 2006 4.2 SC

I'm guessing the mot's are fake otherwise it would be very easy to know it's been clocked. Question The difference between theory and reality is that in theory it will work.

rry the mot I have shows the last 4 mom and they do correspond with the current mileage. I also checked this online at directgov and this also matches the mot cert that I have.
Mot's
22/12/2010: 35001 miles
27/12/2011: 47008
14/12/2012: 53112
22/10/2013: 59583 day I purchased

Land Rover info. To summarise
14/09/09: 56681 last LR service at James Duckworth & Son
15/09/10: 68268 warranty work at Morrison Land Rover
02/12/11: 76538 warranty work at Morrison Land Rover
18 total land rover entries showing various miles upto 76k

I contacted vosa but they just said the mileage is merely noted by the tester and cant be verified as there is no way to verify correct operation of the odo meter.

My intention is to check with my local LR dealer Frank Ogg to see if all the info and vehical no's I have are correct. Also to see if there is a way to tell if the mileage has been adjusted.
Thanks
