Gearbox - stuck in 3rd or 4th gear?

Hi has anyone experienced this, can anyone suggest best action or ignore?
Backed the RR out of garage this morning ok but set off forward very weak on power, quickly became apparent stuck in a higher gear, (30mph exactly 1500 revs) Manual levers did not operate either. Did about 10 miles staying under 50mph on the school run. After switch off, short rest and restart problem has gone away and "gearbox fault" no longer on dash.
Vehicle done 50,000mls and has two months to go to end of LR warranty, and I've recently had a new full gearbox cost on my wifes Freelander 2, so worrying that it may be contagious!
I kind of wish it were still broken, then I could get a warranty fix! is it a sign of trouble to come? Should I report it to dealer?
It's a MY/11 4.4 TDV8 SE.
Thanks! Thumbs Up

Sounds like a gearbox overheat problem and the box has gone into 'safe' mode. Do a search on 'transmission overheat'

Thanks Paul, Could the opposite - cold - have same affect? It was straight out of the garage this morning near Buxton, about 2 degrees above freeze, stone cold. overheat not possible. Confused

Mine did it a few weeks back, locked in 4th, was told to look at the battery, see my post..Bong.. Thumbs Up

The trans fail safe has not returned back so i'm guessing battery was a tad low with mine, hope yours is as simple fix as mine was. Cool If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

Take it to the dealer, I assume they can check the log and tell you what the fault codes are.
