Any Ideas ?? My fan belt keeps coming off

Not full fat RR I know but my P38 throws its fan belt if the engine stalls, the spring adjuster/idler pulley seams to go backwards and jam on the block Curious
It did it on me in France recently the belt stayed on track just lost power steering and got hot.
Christmas day I stalled on a big hill down here in Devon one corner later no steering no alternator and the belt had come completely off.
Checked the spring and seams strong enough
Over to you lot anyone experience this before

Ohh yea vehicle details P38 BMW 2.5 6 cyl 5 sp manual DT

Sounds like a worn tensioner pulley

I suggest to replace the tensioner completely, pulley, arm, spring etc. and make sure it moves easily. Also check all the pulleys that are driven so make sure they are OK and no funny business is going on there Wink

Good luck !! MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

I fitted a genuine new belt and tensioner 2 yrs ago at a major service when the alternator was off I might have to do it again.

Sorry to hear of your trouble. I'm not mechanically incline enough to help, but I just wanted to point out that P38 and Classic DO qualify as 'real' FFRRs. It's a question definitely worth asking even though the site is mainly L322 and L405.

Its been at it again, twice since Christmas, I have ordered a new gas strut/spring assy for the tensioner lets see what that does to it.

If any one interested STC 4168

Ebay best OEM £26-£36
Genuine Main Dealer £44
So went for genuine option collect at the weekend
