I thought about buying a caravan but ended up buying this on a whim about 5 months back , an Autotrail Arapaho Twin rear axle , it's been used about 3 times since , even drove to Durham in it to get a towbar fitted as no-one in Scotland fits them to motorhomes , Also bought a small car to tow behind and have so far not used it ........

So basically i would say seriously think twice , three times before buying .........

£38k for a wendy house for the youngest Daughter to play in ......

I had a similar thing Mick, I really, really want a Unimog overland camper. But I just know it'll do one trip a year with work commitments. So I look and then stop myself from buying. I keep looking though... Laughing

A lot.

People generaly pick up the 'Mog' for about 12k to 35k (older ones, with low tech engines are easier to fix in the bush) then spend 20k and going up, up, up... fitting the back out as a camper themselves.

We have no coverters in the UK. Several people have done their own conversions.
Germany (or Belgium, I can't remember) have a few converters, but you'll not get any change out of 100k I'd imagine for a new one in basic trim.

Top speed is about 55mph on the older ones and they do about 8mpg. But what a way to overland! Thumbs Up

As I said, I'd love one. But I bought the camel as it was cheaper and just a little more practical for popping here and there.

England 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Tonga Green

After being stuck in traffic/tailback for 45mins last Thursday afternoon on the M6 - we came upon the scene of an RTA involving a heavy articulated tanker lorry and a Range Rover which had been towing a caravan.

Unfortunatly - it appeared as though the tanker lorry had rear-ended the caravan destroying the rear of the caravan and of course damaging the front of the lorry...

however
, rather than a scene of complete devastation and carnage - thankfully each of the persons involved were (calmly Whistle ) exchanging details or explaining to the Highways Agency Patrolmen what had occurred etc on the hard shoulder of the motorway.

Can't help imagine that if anything other than a Range Rover had been towing the caravan - this accident could have been a much more serious matter (judging by the damage caused to both the caravan and the lorry) Rolling Eyes

Big thumbs up for the Range Rover involved ( which appeared to have escaped unharmed) Thumbs Up

Hope this unfortunate incident didn't involve any FFRR members.

Be careful out there campers Exclamation

England 2003 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Zambezi Silver

Nice piccys!

We got back last night having towed down to Biarritz (South West France - Border with Spain). Totally awesome break!

Rangie performed well, threw two errors on the Air suspension - both linked to my slowly dying compresssor which I must replace soon. Fortunately I bought the reset doofer a couple of months before we went which has now paid for its self! Shocked

Ate the milage and towed much smoother than my mate Nissan Pathfinder who had a wiggle on when the Rangie sat firm.

Can't wait for next Summer!

Maybe a meet chaps , Switzerland was mentioned as central (or was that nutral Laughing )

Rangie is an Awesome towcar. Thumbs Up

Oh no, surely I haven't bought into the tintent brigade by buying a FFRR..................................... Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry I prefer the floating version - sail on a friends semi custom built Contest 40 in Scotland and his Catalina 45 in the Chesapeake Bay on the east coast of the USA. I also sailed with John and his wife and their moggy across the Atlantic in 19 days from Puerto Mogan Grand Canary to English Harbour Antigua and back from Halifax Nova Scotia to the Clyde 5 years later. Try doing that in a tintent! http://www.tulipyachts.com/en/yacht.php?Id=79 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

If I can get the dealer to drop the price, it'll be ours in a couple of weeks!

UPDATE
Got one! 2008 model (pic above is a 2010 model but no real difference). Bought from a dealer at the right price, with 12 month warranty. Its immaculate and looks great behind the FFRR. I've took some pics on my iphone, but I'll have to move them to a PC to upload.

Picking it up Tuesday! (I'm officially old) 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

I'd love a motorhome, but it's the restrictions that put me off. It would mean towing a smaller car, like you do and I don't fancy that, which would mean driving the motorhome around at the destination. That would mean I'd have to keep unhooking the power, raising the legs etc. At least with this, I can still waft around in the FFRR when we get to wherever we go.

Plus, I've got nowhere to store a motorhome! 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded
